Can I have some advice please on an ebay purchase?

I just recieved something from ebay and one of the items which is crucial to its construction has clearly been broken and mended with tape. Also it should have come with a pump which is missing.
i have sent an email or two explaining this and asked for a refund including all postage costs. Do you think this is reasonable of me?
There is no breakage mentioned in the ad just that it has been used and there might be the odd mark on it (which is fine by me). It does not mention specifically the pump, but its fairly intregral to the whole thing.

No, I don't think you are being unreasonable. They will prob want you to return it if you do even get a response, or jsut send ti abck anyway, with proof of postage and do a paypal claim.

Ask for a refund - you are entitled to the amount paid plus the P&P paid.
If they refuse then you can open a paypal dispute. paypal will require you to return the item (you must use trackable postage) and then you will receive a refund. You will not be refunded your return postage though - hopefully the seller will be reasonable.

I had this a couple of times, and the sellers refunded me the amount i'd paid plus two lots of postage from me having to send the item back.
I always try to keep it all light and airy with 'it's a lovely item, but unfortunately this is broken blah blah blah, if you refuind me today I will send it back today'

Sometimes they need a gentle nudge if they won't reply so then you contact customer services who can give you their telephone number. You can then say 'if you havent contacted me by this time I will ring you tonight'

Does any of that make sense?

dammit the thing is the postage cost £8.94!!! Thats what I am going to lose when I post it back

I agree, the pump is pretty integral. good luck getting it sorted.

Something else i do is if they wont respond then ask someone else with an account to send them a question about another of their items for sale. If they reply immediately to the other person you know they are avoiding you. But again, if you find out they are just keep the tone friendly but go through customer services to try and resolve it. Usually the threat of a phone call does the trick.
This worked for me and the seller left me good feedback. Folk are funny.

Well the seller has been in contact, and I apologised for my shirtiness. She has been very very understanding and hopefully we have sorted it out.

That's good, let's hope you get your postage back too. You should do as the item was not as described.
