Anyone ever bought from Hong Kong sellers?

Am very tempted to buy a DS for DS (ho ho) from one of the Far Eastern sellers. Don't see any reason why they should be iffy, but I'm just not convinced. If I pay with Paypal then am I covered if the item doesn't turn up? Any advice much appreciated.

I've bought from HK before, and been fine. As long as it's paypal, they have lots of good feedback for selling the same (or similar) items, why not?

Oh, I'd check on arrival times, though, if you want it for Xmas.

SlubbersRingAreYouListening · 03/12/2007 19:18

I have. Did what NQC said. No problems.

sixlostmonkeys · 03/12/2007 19:41

have you checked to make sure it's compatable?
you may have to pay customs too (I think)

sixlostmonkeys · 03/12/2007 19:43

I've just had a quick look - they don't appear to be any cheaper than nipping to argos for one

woodenchair · 03/12/2007 19:49

I have, but only ones with 100% and a high feedback

LIZS · 03/12/2007 19:50

Are you sure it is genuine ? There have been problems with adaptors for the ds from Far East being substandard and dangerous. They really aren't that hard to come by here.

ChristmasPresence · 03/12/2007 20:28

Are you kidding? You can't get a DS anywhere! I've been searching high and low for them, and had no idea they were a "must have" this Christmas, or I would have bought it earlier in theyear. If anyone knows of an Argos that's got one in stock, I'd be very pleased to hear from you

Argos have them in stock for reserve and collect but not for home delivery

smeeinachristmastreeinnit · 03/12/2007 20:38

I have bought gameboys SP's and DS's from HK and never had a problem. Got loads of games from there too.

checked their feedback, paid by paypal. All went smoothly.

Good luck

sparklygothkat · 03/12/2007 20:45

I have just done a search on all the argos' in our area... none sorry

ChristmasPresence · 03/12/2007 20:51

thanks sparkly and everyone. I think we might risk HK - just feel that if anything goes wrong with it, we might be in a pickle, but we can't afford to pay £150 for one. Just glad it's not a wii we're after!

Got 2 last week - one in Game , one in Woolworths. Literally just walked in at lunchtime and asked. Pink seems to be harder to come by though.

MrsWeasley · 03/12/2007 20:53

we've just ordered a Wii, went in at lunch time it will be here intime for xmas

sixlostmonkeys · 03/12/2007 20:54

give argos a ring. I'm sure they will be getting some more in stock. worth a phone call. they do a fab package deal

sixlostmonkeys · 03/12/2007 20:57

how much are the ones you are looking at from HK?
they appear to be going for more than argos and then there is P&p and then possibly customs charges

DumbledoreWithBoughsOfHolly · 03/12/2007 20:58

I bought a DS plus one game and a car adaptor from this site www.tgrav.com for £135 on Saturday. I could not find another one anywhere else either in shops or internet. I am hoping it will come before Christmas. They have sent me an email saying my order has been processed but I dont really know what that means! Normal dispatch is meant to be 48 hours.

I did look at the Hong Kong sellers on ebay and I bid for one or two DSs but they all went for much bigher prices than the one I ended up buying.

justbeme · 03/12/2007 21:12

I wouldnt buy from HK. I bought a photo keyring in october, which was posted from Hong Kong - it didnt work properly, feedback up until that point was fine - but then I got no where with my emails and seller now has withdrawn from Ebay. Paypal are being crap and I am now without the keyring as I was told to send it back (funnily enough I then had to send it to China!) and I have lost the money. Paypal counts for nothing so far in my experience.

ninedragons · 04/12/2007 04:15

If you do, check their postage fees beforehand. A lot of HK and Chinese sellers sell things cheaply and really sting you on the postage. And check the feedback isn't all from the same three or four users - I think a lot of them set up accounts and then have a feedback circle-jerk with their mates.

I say this as a HK-registered eBayer myself.

WriggleJiggle · 04/12/2007 15:16

I bought my wedding dress! DH frequently buys CDs. No problems with anything so far. The last CD took a while to arrive, but probably more due to the postal strikes than anything else.

ChristmasPresence · 04/12/2007 15:44

Thanks all - managed to get one in Game - went in first thingthis morning and they had a few! So snapped it up. thanks for all your help.
