Is an e-cheque different to paypal? I'm confused!

I bought something from ebay yesterday for £3. I payed straight away using paypal. Today the seller emailed saying that they had received my echeque and it would take 4 days to clear, and then they'd send it. I've never had this before - i thought paypal was immediate. Is it the same thing?

I had this and after a few payments normal PayPal services resumed with payments being instant. I still to this day do not know why this happened as I didn't change any card details. It didn't happen to my DH-just me .

Yes that link is right, it is money that comes straight from your bank account & it can take upto 10 days i think to clear, i was paid by an e-cheque once & it did take a good 6-7 days so be patient, don't expect your item till it's cleared, you will recieve an email to say it has cleared i think, well i did but i was the one who was paid by one.
