I am sick of getting sniped. Can't beat them should I join them?

Ebay recommend placing your highest bid at the last minute, the automatic bid tool is for people who can't be there when the auction closes.

''Bide your time. By placing your highest bid in the closing seconds, you stand a greater chance of getting the item.''

Tips for winning auctions

Auction-style listings on eBay will often have multiple competing bidders, and you can maximise your chances of winning by having a well thought out bidding strategy.

if you were willing to pay more then you should have bid more in the first place. E bay uses a proxy biddding system, where you are supposed to enter the absolute maximum amount you are willing to pay for an item. E bay then bids on your behalf up to that amount.

If you are coming back and constantly increasing your bid when you are outbid, then you are not using E bay in the way it was designed to be used.

Thanks 👍 for letting me know that Doris86, now that I know that, that's what I will do from now on. I mainly buy Buy Now items, but occasionally there are auction items that I want. I will definitely be giving what you told me a try.

Hi

How is it mean to submit a bid towards the end of an auction and win?

If you're getting your hopes up when you've only bid £5 while someone else was willing to bid £10, then that shows others valued the item more than you.

FWIW, I have I the past used an auction sniper because I can't be there in person to bid or Im worried that I'll forget to bid! I don't always win, because like I've said, even if the current bid is showing as 99p ( I miss those days!) and I put a maximum bid of £5, it only takes one other person to put say £10 to win and only pay £5.10, or whatever the next increment is above £5 these days.

I've not used the auction format for a while though.
