I bought DS a BNWT coat on ebay last week. It was BIN or best offer, I offered £7 and got it with £2 postage on top.

It arrived all good but stinking really musty but nothing that the washing machine couldn't fix. It got washed straight away exactly as the label says and he has worn it twice for about an hour at a time. When he was wearing it today (the second time) I noticed it had a big rip where the lining of the hood is coming away from the fluffy bit IYSWIM.

I'm not happy and want to complain but DP said to ignore it. We had some sh*t on ebay in the summer (someone threatened to sue us) which is resolved now but DP doesn't want to annoy anybody. I'm just annoyed because I can't afford to buy DS another coat, we can barely afford to eat at the moment.

WWYD?

(I'm steering well clear from ebay after this, it's nothing but hassle!)

Typical, I just looked in the shop to find a link and they aren't selling it any more.

This one

It is 12-18 though not 18-23. It also has a big picture on the back which is not described.

Can't you just email the seller and see what they say? Surely you've nothing to lose. Or is that photograph from another seller?

Even if it is, do you have a reference no (don't do ebay so I don't know how it works) you can give them?

lispy · 28/11/2007 07:15

Yep, email the seller and see what happens. I've had some pleasant surprises (and not so pleasant..)

laura032004 · 28/11/2007 07:40

Did you buy it from the seller that you linked to? I'd def. approach them for a refund / replacement. Probably wouldn't mention the mustiness in case it gets their back up, just the rip.

sixlostmonkeys · 28/11/2007 08:43

This would have been straight forward if you had returned it in the condition it arrived (stinking) - you would have received a full refund.

As you have washed and worn it there is little you can do.

I would maybe contact the seller saying that the item arrived not as described and smelly and now the last straw is that the lining of the hood is pulling away. Tell them you would like to return it for either a refund or a replacement. See what they say.

good luck

I did buy it from the seller linked to.

I didn't return it because of the smell because I wash all clothes first anyway and didn't want the hassle.

I'll email the seller and see what they say.

Thanks

How does this email sound, I'm really bad with this kind of thing.

Hi,
As I stated in the feed back I was very happy with the item, Unfortunatly my son has only worn the coat once and the stitching in the hood is coming away. There is now a hole between the lining and the fur. As you can imagine I am dissapointed about this as the coat is lovely. Is there anything we can do about this?
Thank you,

Sounds good to me.

SantasReindeerDonna21x · 28/11/2007 14:03

that sounds good purple. let us know what the say x

purpleflower · 28/11/2007 14:04

Thanks, I have sent it now. I realised as I hit send that I put that he wore it once but I left it, although he wore it twice it was only for an hour at a time!

Wonder what they will say.

They have offered to replace it or give me a full refund if I return it.

Will they refund the postage both ways? Should I ask them to?

OP posts:
purpleflower · 28/11/2007 15:17

I don't really want a replacement incase the same thing happens again.

LazyLinePainterJane · 28/11/2007 15:19

Yes they should refund all postage on a faulty item.

sixlostmonkeys · 28/11/2007 15:35

you need to return in by trackable means should this end up in dispute (paypal)
they are not obliged to refund the return postage - but a good seller would under these circumstances
