I sold a damaged iPhone which was cracked, photos and description cleared showed issue. Buyer complains that the speaker doesn't work so opens up a dispute to retun, obviously I have to accept the return as there's no option not to, then I have to pay for the phone to be returned as that's what eBay states.
Buyer sends me the phone back with glass missing from the screen!!! I complain to eBay but they don't give a crap and refund the buyer anyway!
Now buyer has left me negative feedback and there's sod all I can do about it.

So flaming annoyed that eBay never ever side with sellers!!!!

What about sending a message to the buyer saying about opening a civil lawsuit for stolen item s ?

It's not stolen though, it's been returned damaged

Seems to be a very common scam in order to get a refund. I now don’t sell anything of value there.

I listed an expensive pair of trainers worth £250, I’d only worn once or twice, properly pictured to show they were pristine. The buyer clearly changed their mind upon receipt so ripped the soles clean off at the front of one shoes. Ebay refunds buyer in full and I get back a pair of trainers that had to be binned as they were too damaged to do anything with.

eBay is not somewhere I would sell. I only buy now. It's a haven for situations like this

MichelleScarn · 25/06/2021 06:52

Would never sell on ebay again. Sold a brand new dress. Buyer put in a claim saying was covered in make up, was refunded but apparently had 'binned the dress' so didn't have to return!

So the screen was cracked when you sent it - and it's come back with glass missing?

So either the buyer has decided the damage was worse than described - reasonable as normally a cracked screen means a functional but unsightly phone, while if pieces of glass actually drop off the screen then it's no longer functional.

Or the speakers not working is an additional issue with the phone.

Presumably you advertised the phone as "used" rather than "parts/repair"? There's a lesson then - next time ALWAYS use parts/repair for anything damaged - it precludes returns.

...the glass was stolen though? That's what you said?

.. and I've found to my cost that if you give a part refund for something eBay won't refund you the apportioned seller fees - this is new with the Ayden system. So I never offer a part refund any more (I used to do it occasionally to save the hassle of returns)

Ebay will soon be a distant memory if they keep getting away with this. But certain items seem to attract scammers. I reckon mobile phones is at the top of the list.
