Have you ever had anyone from e-bay phoning for your address?

I am new to ebay 9about 2 weeks) and have recently sold several items and bought two. I know all my accoutn details are correct and I have a paypal account.Someone has just called my landline number saying they were from e-bay and needed to verify my address. I refused on the grounds that they already have these details. I know this may sound paranoid but what with ID fraud, etc I am wary. Is this normal of e-bay?

Of they had sent me a message via my ebay account to ask for my address I wouldnt have minded but a random phone call seems odd to me.

Yes, I got phoned once because I had won something and the seller had broken it and wanted to offer me an alternative. dunno why she phoned instead of emailing, probably wanted it more personal or something. didn't have a problem with it, I thought it was good of her. But I wouldn't confirm details over the phone to anyone claiming to be from anywhere, iyswim!

I am very suspicious. Times I've had the bank or something phone me up and say "we need to take you through security", I say "you phoned me so I should take you through security!" Pretty much ends the conversation I find.

Better safe than sorry, imo.

I'm sure I have heard/read about ebay phoning you to verify etc especially with new(ish) accounts. To be honest though I would never give any info over the phone to anyone

I am quite new to ebay too and also had a phone call to confirm my address, of course told them nothing and said they have all my details and that they are correct to which i got the phone put down on me!! Be very wary!

It is not mandatory to list your telephone number on your ebay account - I don't have mine on - If I was you I would remove it ASAP.

Bay are notorious for being hard to contact by phone, they only deal in e-mails, so can't believe they would be making phone calls - they would contact you via "my messages" - if it's not in there, don't trust it. The other day I had a message in my Outlook inbox, saying there had been a problem with a seller I'd bought something from - even though it seemed legit, I still checked that it was also in the "my messages" bit on eBay before responding (it was genuine).

I have had ebay phone me before...was to do with an inconsistency in my account details! They were able to confirm they were actually ebay by giving me my date of birth, my mothers maiden name and the security questions I had given them when I signed up. The poor bloke was really exasperated by all the questions I asked him. He also read all my details to me and I had to confirm them..I wasn't actually asked for any details iykwim. They shouldn't ever ask for passwords etc over the phone.

I would call ebay yourself and offer to verify your address....you may find that your account gets suspended if they can't verify your details. If you call them then you will know that you are actually talking to them!
