someone bought my pushchair off me for £90 + £15p&p. I said that I would be able to get to the post office for a while. Anyway, she emails me yesterday saying she needs it for the weekend. so feeling guilty that I hadn't posted it yet i rang MIL to take it to the post office for me but they couldn't get it there in time, so i arranged for a courier to pick it up this morning for a saturday morning, at a cost of £35, leaving myself £20 out of pocket on postage. I emailed them to say that its on its way, only for the husband to reply saying that it doesnt matter about the delay and that his wife had gone away and he was at work so wouldn't be there to sign for it anyway. I feel as though I have been screwed over. I can't afford to lose £20 at the moment but she made me feel so guilty

Sorry to hear that. Well done for you for trying to do a good thing.

Maybe she wasn't being dishonest, but had to go away and made alternative arrangements for a pushchair in case she didn't get it in time.

Did you tell her you were getting a courier to deliver it before you sent it?

AnAngelWithin · 16/11/2007 16:40

but she went away last night after she had emailed me, so she obviously wasn't going to be there anyway!!! i emailed her to say that i would get it on next day delivery, and her husband replied to say she had already gone last night. im not being funny, but surely, if you want something for a certain date then you either say when you have won the item, or email plenty in advance, not 2 days before. im sorry, its just got me so cross cos i can't afford to lose money at the moment. DH is going to be fuming when he gets home cos he saw how upset i was about it last night when i was desperately trying to sort it out.

In that case she was just using the 'I need it for the weekend' line in order to get you do deliver it quicker. Not nice if she knew doing that would put you out of pocket .

I completely understand why you are cross. Put it down to experience though and just be thankful you are a kinder person than her

AnAngelWithin · 16/11/2007 16:54

i am so tempted to email back saying that it would have been nice to know earlier if she had wanted it beforehand.

Has anyone tried Payperdrop on Ebay?

Would they have been a better option?

AnAngelWithin · 16/11/2007 17:24

no cos you have to be there cos they wont redeliver. and they wouldnt have been there to sign for it anyway.

I do think you have to prepared to mail things promptly if someone pays quickly otherwise it's just asking for trouble re Ebay. But I can understand why you are peed off AAW

Peachy · 16/11/2007 17:27

payperdrop are fine, used them a few times with never a problem BUT you need to know recipient will be there as they can charge for a missed delivery (how they keep it cheap)

Dh ahs an Ebay shop, he sends everything Royal mail frst class recorded with no other options available- reduces the risk and the complications. he does send things that same day if he can, or e-mails to say when he will post (eg if he has something coming from suppliers or buyer wants a modification)

I too think it was the delay in posting that prompted the "I need it for the weekend"
I reckon she was probably getting worried she had lost £105 and didn't think beyond that (ie didn't think about the fact you may then rush to get it to her and pay extra)
