Just set up a PayPal account, I'm confused - help

It's been a couple of years since I last used ebay, so I re-registered as there is something I'd like to buy. I've also signed up for a PayPal account, but I'm confused. All this business about waiting for a small amount to be deposited in the account etc - does this mean that I can't bid and pay using PayPal just yet?

I really wanted to buy today and it's online software, so I suspect that once it's paid for you get a link to download from. I wanted to get on with it today - am most impatient and most confused.

it's been a while since I had to do this, but i think it's called being 'verified' i.e that you are who you say you are. If i remember correctly you have to wait until a reference number pops up against the small transaction (you will find it on your statement or online banking entry) and enter that into paypal. I think it means that you cannot use it today - a friend of mine got caught out like this last week when he desperately wanted some concert tickets.
If what I'm saying is not correct I'm sure someone else will know for sure.
