ebay fees, am I missing something??

I recently sold a few things totalling £168 including postage, but the total I received from eBay was just £124 which is clearly alot more than 10% . I'm an eBay novice and I wondered if I had a paid for something in the listing without realising - or does it really cost that much to sell?

Oo I get confused by the fees too. I think there's three fees: the listing fee, the selling fee (that's the 10%you mentioned, I think?) and then the PayPal fee (who take about 10% too?).
Not 100% sure about it - but it is an expensive way of selling!

Yes, it's expensive especially if using PayPal. It's worth selling when they have free listing periods and don't use PayPal, if you can get someone to local. FB selling groups are free and worth trying before ebay.

Well it depends on how you paid for postage?

The FVF is 10% or 12.8% depending on how you receive payment.
You don't pay to list items anymore unless you select optional upgrades - when you created the listing it would have told you at the bottom how much it was going to cost you.

Finally, did you purchase the postage through ebay? If so then they'll deduct the costs of that.

If you've already accounted for the postage costs then you need to check why they've charged you - all the details will be in your account.

Go to Menu item My eBay - click on Selling - then look for the Account Summary or Payments Page linked to from there - location varies depending on which options you have selected in your ebay account.

Agreed with this - used to sell a lot on ebay - switched to FB marketplace last year and it's SO much better (mind you I'm in an easy to get to area just outside London so there's a lot of locals!).

Now I ONLY use ebay for things where locally there isn't much demand.

The nice thing about FB - no scammers (not that I encountered many on eBay but enough that I never wanted to send anything high value). and you're not committed to the first buyer if they mess you around (i.e. don't show up when they say they will).
However, you will get numerous people ask you about an item and then never respond again - and a few no-shows (thankfully not many).

Some categories on Ebay are charged more than 10% final fee, there are also additional charges for things like Buy It Now price, subtitles and a large photo, or putting an item in 2 categories.
I've found that sometimes when I'm listing, Ebay will try to sneak in a Buy It Now price.
