Question about sellers who say they hold no responsibility for items lost or damaged in post

I'm new to this ebay lark so sorry this has probably been covered before

Lots of sellers seem to say they hold no responsibility for items lost or damaged in post.

I am bidding on an item where the seller offers to send it recorded if I pay the extra 70p postage

If I don't opt for the recorded delivery can I still get my money back via paypal if it doesn't turn up?

Just ask the seller to get a receipt when posting! If it gets lost then the money gets claimed back from royal Mail. If they can't be bothered doing it for you (which is generally what that means on listings) then they can forward it to you to make a claim yourself. A proof of posting covers up to £32, but, when making a claim, add what you paid in postage to the value of the item, as for some reason they don't refund postage cost
Hope this helps!

sellers who state they are not responsible for items lost or damaged in the post will sooner or later discover that they are

It's daft to offer an option of recorded as the recorded deliver is for teh seller's protection not the buyers.

If you say you just want normal delivery then you are still covered should it arrive damaged or not arrive at all - providing you pay via paypal.

A seller has to prove the item was delivered in order to win a paypal dispute - and this can only be done by giving the tracking number...hense the rec del being for teh seller's benefit.
