Buyer refusing to send item back for a refund?!

I sold an item last week, the buyer is now saying it's faulty .

I've said for a refund they need to send it back the same way I sent it, and then we'll check it before sending a refund....they replied saying they won't send "a such value" item back with no guarantee of a refund.

Am I being fair to say return before refund?

Nope yanbu

It sounds like they want to keep what they have and not pay

You are being fair but eBay will side with the buyer - can they send images? Send a returns label and then they can return and once you receive it you will need to give a refund. This is the safest way. It protects them too. Always a chance they’ll send nothing back and you don’t have to refund. Or an empty box - not likely - so recurs yourself opening, best not to irritate the buyer.

Simple, 'That's how the system works, my friend. You send it back with proof of postage and insurance if it needs it, when I receive it, I will refund. I checked the item before I sent it, but you are saying that between me packaging it and you opening it, it has developed a fault, if that is the case, I can verify the fact and then refund you. You can raise a case with EBay if you like, they will tell you the same.'

Warn eBay you think they are trying to scam you, and that you do not want to refund until it is returned.

If they open a case and tick 'item damaged' eBay will supply the postage label and bill you.

They have a good chat system if you select help and then keep scrolling to the bottom of the page.

Give them a call and ask how to proceed. This goes on record and will assist your case.

Thanks

Did a call back and they've basically confirmed everything we've all said.

And that it is logged on my account.

So ball is in buyers court now.
