Does this sound likely?

I bought an item from Europe and on checking the tracking information today it says it was delivered yesterday. I contacted the seller and they responded that the tracking on ebay has been faulty for a while and it had actually been delivered a while ago
But as it had not been collected it had been returned to them. Because of Brexit the postage has gone up by €3 and how do i want to proceed?
As I never received anything to tell me it had arrived I can't guarantee this would not happen again so I've requested a refund.
Does any of this ring true for anyone experienced in sales from Europe?

How long ago did you expect it to be delivered? Sufficiently long ago there would be time for it to be not collected by you and then shipped back to Europe?

Initially delivery was estimated for anywhere up to 8th Feb so I wasn't expecting it to have already arrived. There was time for it to arrive but I would have expected to be notified. Was just really querying 'faulty tracking'.

Where are they saying it was delivered to?

They haven't said but I'm assuming post office.

Was there time between when you ordered it and now for it to have been posted, kept at the post office and sent back?

Mystery solved! It never left France due to some Brexit complications. Thanks all.
