Will I have to refund overseas postage?

I always used the GSP to sell abroad. Posted lowish-value breakable item in it's box wrapped in more cardboard and then brown paper. It has arrived in the US smashed to pieces so clearly no good to me or them. With hindsight I should have bubble-wrapped the item first but was having a terrible day and very distracted (not an excuse!) so it is no doubt my fault it is broken.

Buyer has requested full refund of item and postage. Ebay only allows me to refund the UK part of the postage but I have feeling they will complain and ask for the the international bit too. Will I have to pay that? No idea how much it was obviously as through the GSP.

You should contact ebay - once the item arrives safely at the UK handling centre it's out of your hands, so the buyer needs to deal with ebay not you. Don't refund them, that'll just mess things up!

Thank you. Ah ok, they've opened a case, I was about to refund them the item plus the UK postage and hope that was the end of it! If I don't do anything, could eBay refund them the whole cost of postage and then claim it back from me though?
It could well have been broken within the UK but I have no way of knowing obviously.

If you do a google search for "ebay global shipping program" you get a page which includes this info, so basically, you should be okay. Just contact ebay and let them sort it out. As far as I understand it, once ebay message you to say that the item has arrived with them, they're saying it's intact and that any future problems are up to them to resolve. I've had a couple of issues (one damaged item, and one lost) and ebay sorted them out with no problems at all for me.
