Buyers not paying

Sold an item on eBay ( though this is happening a lot right now ). They message and say can I cancel because I got the item elsewhere. I mean how can they bid on an Item by when they got it elsewhere? Can I make them pay? What fees will I have to pay due to non payer to PayPal and eBay?

Why would you make them pay - they will just leave bad feedback if you did.

Cancel so you get your fees back (Paypal only keeps 20p and only if they already paid via paypal). Be sweet to their face to avoid bad feedback & put them on your blocked bidders list. There are fora you can go post on, online, to name them bad behaviour so others will block them too.

If you paid to make listing -- try to learn how to avoid doing that. Otherwise your listing fee should be credited. If it was an auction you might be in time to offer item to 2nd best bidder. Act quickly if you want to do that.

Ebay resolution centre click here, buyer requested to cancel.

Only communicate to them thru Ebay messaging & be super polite about it. They have right to cancel.

place to anonymously diss bad buyers...

Set buyer preferences to avoid chronic non-payers.

You cannot leave bad feedback. Don't even think about it. Best you can say is something factual like "Thanks for your interest & maybe you'll complete purchase a different time." This won't really help others, but will make you feel slightly better that their sloppy bidding habits are being recorded.

I was just about to start a Thread about this. Im new to selling and up to last sale of a necklace all the winners of the auctions I’ve done have been really great. Quick payment, good communications and really good and appreciative feedback. Sold necklace on Sunday and haven’t heard a word or received payment. I sent a message at the end of the auction saying I hoped they’d love their new necklace and that it was packed and ready to post as soon as I received payment. How long do you leave it before sending a reminder/invoice? I don’t think they will pay somehow.

I have always opened an unpaid item case for non-payers. If they don't pay they get a strike.

If they contact me with an excuse, cat bid on it, child bid on it etc. I just say don't worry, the case will close, you don't need to do anything, and they get the strike, usually they have no idea until they have done it a few times and find some sellers have blocked them.

The last one did exactly that, and bought elsewhere. I told them that if they bid they are not just looking, they are in a contract to buy and have wasted my time and prevented someone else from buying it. I only use BINs with immediate payment to avoid these dumbos but this was a collection item and I was well pissed off with her. She got the strike.

Too many people don't read the rules when signing up. Neither do they read the listings, stupidity and ignorance reign on EBay these days.

@Backwardsuptheescalator

You will get a lot of advice on here but not always correct. On EBay go to the bottom of your Ebay page and find 'Community'. Click the link and find the 'New to selling board', there are people on there that know everything about Ebay and have been on there for many years. Don't worry if they have 0 feedback, they don't use their selling accounts for posting on there, the account is specifically for use on the boards.

My post above might help you, however if you get a negative from a non-payer it can be a fight to get it removed. Send all messages via Ebay messages not by e.mail just in case you need them later.

slopesoff. Thank you. I’ll do that. I’ve been lucky so far with some really lovely buyers but there has to be a minority who mess you around. It’s been over 48 hours since end of auction so pretty sure she’s not going to pay.
