Cheapest Postage to China

Our recently bought sat nav has now broken. The seller is willing to replace it if we return it, however it comes from China! Does anyone know the cheapest way to send a 1kg parcel to China?

Surface mail is the cheepest but can take 2 weeks+ to get there.

I would send by airmail.

surface mail can actually take 12 + weeks!! i won't use it any more.
As you need to return it by trackable means, this is going to be quite expensive!

See if the seller can send you a jpg of his/her address in Chinese, including a mobile number, so you can print it out and use it as a label. The postal workers aren't great at reading English (fair enough), so things can go astray. If you live in 25i, you'll get three deliveries a week for 25h or 25j.

Tracked and signed-for delivery is absolutely essential, as sixlostmonkeys says.

ninemonkeys - what do you mean by "if you live in 25i etc.." I need to send it to Shenzhen 518002. I just hope the address I have been given in a real one.

I mean if your flat is number 25i, 1451 Nanjing Road. You'll sometimes get the mail for 25j, 1451 Nanjing Road because the postman can't necessarily tell the difference between a j and an i.
