Hi there

Appreciate some advice as never sold before now. Trying to sell some of my daughters clothes for a bit of pocket money to put toward things we need for the new baby (boy). eBay advised £3.10 for each item of clothing which I sold the items for. I’ve just posted 5 items and each was £3.10 second class small package. If I add that to the cost of the plastic envelope and petrol money toward driving to nearest post office it eats into the little bit of profit making on each item. How do other people do it to not be out of pocket but not make postage put people off please? Thanks

@Lovemylittlebear

Small items can be sent as large letter. Look on the Royal Mail website for prices and weights/measurements. Much cheaper than small parcel, just pack it as flat as you can. Keep packaging from stuff you buy and re-use it.

Or sell as a bundle, but you can run into trouble with this if someone doesn't want all the items and starts being picky.

Price at 3.50.

If you use Hermes its 2.90 for under 1kg I think and tracked.

Check parcel and letter sizes. Sometimes the same weight of item can be cheaper if packaged flat rather than bulky.

What are you packing them in? Not anything from the post office I hope?! I buy recyclable plastic packets from ebay and they're so cheap. Around 30p each. Also make sure that you post all the items on the same day so only 1 trip. Many will fit as large letters as PP have said.

ThaNks so much guys - all very helpful. Would you mind sending a link to the recyclable packaging please if that’s ok? Thanks :)

You can see plenty of choice here:

www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=Postage+Packaging+Recyclable+Bags&_sacat=0&_sop=15

for example "10 RED Mailing Postage Parcel Post Bags 10" x 14" Recyclable Packaging 250x350mm" for less than £3.

If you are listing now don’t forget that postal charges are increasing on 1 January. I know a first class stamp is going to cost 9p more but don’t know about anything else.
