I am quite new to selling on ebay and have sold a couple of this but this week have put items on and they are not selling. If you are a seller do you list your items in as many catorgories(spell?) as possible, its just iwill be losing money on them as it stands iykwim.
Any advice??

What sort of things are you selling? Some things sell well, andsome don't. I fit's the sort of thing I haven't sold before, I check by doing an advanced search, using completed items only, to see if the type of item has sold in the past, and for how much.

thank you for getting back to me, just a mixture really books dvd etc. Read about the completed item search but just cant seem to fingd it. Thanks again, will try and look for completed items, its not great when you see things going for such a low price. oh well, things can only get better

Try first doing an ordinary search, then click the blue link to the right that says Advanced Search. Then some boxes come up for you to tick. Click the one that says Completed Items Only.

tbh, I have found that books don't often sell for very much, don't know about DVDs.

Make sure you finish your items at a good time (7-8pm always good), start at a low price, don't overcharge on P&P, take GOOD photos and do a nice, large, bright description that is spelt properly. As previously said, do your research on what others have sold similar items for.

Thank you little miss. will def keep in mind what ur saying as i enjoy selling, its just disheartning when it doesnt sell.

Good luck...I buy (and sell) a lot on e-bay and there is nothing more irritating than poor photos and a badly written description or someone that is clearly taking the pi** with price and/or postage. What is great however, is when it finishes at a ridiculous time and I can get a bargain .

I list things twice....if it doesn't go then it either goes to a charity shop or in the bin. If its really heavy, it probably won't sell as P&P will be heavy.

Another tip is to be prepared to sell abroad....some collectables are snapped up by people outside the UK....just get them to e-mail you for P&P charges

Looks fine to me....very low starting price low...I always start things at 99p or 1.99....you need someone to help bid it up for you (not that I'm recommending shill bidding you know )

brewanyone · 16/10/2007 18:13

Thanks, always thought it was better to start at 1p, dont know what shill bidding is? Thanks again for all your help, both of you.

Had a look at your others and same really....looks fine but starting price way too low. Unfortunately, I don't think you can end auctions early if they have less than 12 hours to go and have a bid (so you can end the top if you wish).

Perhaps chalk these ones up to experience and try a few more things later....

Good luck

LittleMissNorty · 16/10/2007 18:15

Shill bidding is when someone you know puts bids in on your auctions not to win the item but to bump up the price....strictly forbidden by e-bay
