Lost parcel as seller

Out of the 30 parcels over the last few months, I’m impressed that only 1 has disappeared (so far).

Investigation has said lost so I have filled in comp forms etc. I’ve alerted the buyer to open a not received case and will refund as necessary once this is done.

So... my question is what about me? Item sold for £13 inc postage, do I just get that back? If so I’m still out of pocket as I do t have the item but everyone else is covered 🤦‍♀️
TIA

Depends on the term and conditions of the courier you have used. For Royal Mail the compensation value of the parcel is what you paid for it and not what you sold it for. There are also various exceptions such as breakable items.

Looks like I’m going to be out of pocket the. 🤦‍♀️ So irritating but fortunately not huge value item.

Something to remember for the future me thinks

How are you out of pocket? You have the buyer's money, refund it, then you get the money from the insurance claim.

When buyer opens a not received case, refund. Then, If you have a proof of postage then you can use it to claim back item and postage costs from Royal Mail.

My being out of pocket is: buyer has been refunded, I will get the money that THEY paid back but I still don’t have the item sold - so I am out of pocket. I don’t get the money to “replace” the item for me just for the buyer. So I have no item and no money, buyer has no product but has the money :)

But you do get it back.

Buyer pays you £13.
You are now +£13
Item lost, buyer refunded. You are now at £0.
Royal Mail refund your loss. You are now +£13.

Good point

I don’t know how I didn’t see it that way Confused

Surprisingly I’m “usually” quite intelligent but couldn’t get my head around it 🤦‍♀️
