PayPal problems or waiting for pay day?

I sold something last week and almost immediately got a message from the buyer with loads of detail of a problem they had paying as PayPal wasn’t allowing them to load new funds.

More messages about how it would take five days. The finally one yesterday saying payment would be happening on 30 Oct.

AIBU to think this is not a PayPal problem and she just needs to wait to get paid on the last Friday of the month?

The funny thing is, if she’d been honest, I would have been happy to wait.

Anyone have charitable or cynical thoughts on this?

You’re right, she is waiting for payday and making excuses
I’d be inclined to wait now, and would have been happy to wait originally

From what she had said you could put in an unpaid claim to cancel the sale, but now it’s only a couple of days.
If you aren’t paid by the evening of the 30th then treat it as unpaid

I really don't mind a longer wait than usual but would prefer someone to be honest. But the cloak and dagger stuff means I will now block her as a buyer once she's paid.

It does depends as sometimes with PayPal they can freeze the account for numerous reasons. If she’s sold things herself it’s very plausible that it won’t load funds. I deal with payments on PayPal and in my early days it would often be funds held for two weeks before being able to move them or use them.

Thanks @BF2748

I have only ever had PayPal linked to a bank account, so you pay and if there are no funds in your PayPal account, it pays the seller from your bank account via PayPal. Is this not the way it works for everyone?

Of course if there is not enough in the bank account that’s different, but the ‘loading funds’ problem was new to me.

Also, in her first message, I think she was angling for free postage as she said she had enough to cover the item but couldn’t add more funds for the full amount. It’s a big, heavy-ish item, so I wasn’t keen to waive pp costs.
