strike is off but i imagine will take a while to clear last week's backlog. personally i wouldn't rely on anything getting to me within the week.

puppydavies · 14/10/2007 20:37

and with ebay often people only dispatch on a couple of set days through the week, i'd say thurs no chance

puppydavies · 14/10/2007 20:37

unless you contact the seller and get them to send special delivery

UlySCREAMS · 14/10/2007 20:40

I sent an item to an ebayer 2nd class on Thurday and they have it already HTH

UlySCREAMS · 14/10/2007 20:40

No actually it was Thursday

UlySCREAMS · 14/10/2007 20:41

What about Woolies or Asda they do nice outfits?

Screaminglips · 14/10/2007 20:45

BUT there are some counties are still on strike though

"However we are very disappointed to report that some colleagues are currently taking unofficial strike action, in several parts of the country, which will inevitably lenghten our recovery period, and affect services in these areas. Please call our customer service helpline - 08457 950 950 for business customers and 08457 740 740 for residential customers - for the latest details".

as i think its in Liverpool and London as i read it in the paper yesterday (and also theres a week or 2 of backlog as dp was told by a postman on Friday [hmm!!])

take a read here

Do you have a co-op supermarket near you cause they have some nice costumes and are really decently priced

empen · 14/10/2007 20:47

I ebay all the time and am currently waiting for 6 different items from different areas. Also items I have sent have nto been received yet and I sent them early last week. I asked the lady in the post office and she said she would not bother posting anything yet cause it will just sit there until they clear the backlog - that was on last Thursday. There were 20 unofficial strikes in sorting offices around the country. My point is....I would not risk it!

puppydavies · 14/10/2007 20:49

my entire new winter wardrobe i've bought off ebay over the past 2 weeks is languishing in some sorting office somewhere right now

Screaminglips · 14/10/2007 20:55

oh no puppyd....how annoying!!!

puppydavies · 14/10/2007 21:07

weather is considerately holding off though so fur trimmed coat would be faintly ridiculous. also considerate growth spurting bf baby is ensuring that pyjamas are this season's hottest look chez dp

twinsetandpearls · 14/10/2007 22:06

THe thing is that I tend to be inwork from 6 in the morning until 6 or seven at night so a trip to a shop mid week is an impossibility. I could get dp to take dd though.

I also need to get myself a costume, I will look for a company using a courier and doing next day delivery.

unless you could find one on ebay that finshes before thursday and that they live close enough to you that you could pick it up. I assume you know that can search by distance from selected postcode!

Hulababy · 14/10/2007 22:09

I am still waiting for post that was definitely posted before the other two strikes - still not here. Including our Disneyland paris tickets Just hoping we start getting proper mail this cming week.

Thing chances of getting stuff by Thursday via normal mail are slim.

twinsetandpearls · 14/10/2007 22:15

Oh I feel for you Hula the last postal strike was just before we went to Florida and it caused lots of stress.

OP posts:
Hulababy · 14/10/2007 22:17

I just want those tickets! Rest of parcels can wait. They have until a week on Friday to arrive - please let them be fine!!! I will check with company we have bought them with mid week this week.

twinsetandpearls · 14/10/2007 22:20

It must be loosing royal mail so much long term business, nearly every fancy dress website I look at is proudly proclaiming that they do not use royal mail.

Could someone please tell me when the strikes are going to stop? I am overseas and have a few little bits of jewellery I want to sell before Christmas. I did want to put them on ebay.co.uk because the pound is strong (and because they probably appeal more to British tastes than American tastes), but if everyone is holding off bidding on anything because of the postal strikes I may as well put them on ebay.com.

empen · 15/10/2007 12:12

I went to the post office this morning and there was a sign up saying there are more strikes between 15th and 19th Oct. Although I have not heard anyhting about this from elsewhere. I am just sending stuff as usual but not expecting things to be delivered on time.

dooley1 · 15/10/2007 12:15

from Royal Mail site:

"We are also pleased to report that the industrial action that had been planned for next week has been cancelled. We apologise to all our customers for the disruption and inconvenience the strikes have caused, and thank them for their ongoing patience.

We are now working hard to return to normal as quickly as possible, but there is a significant build-up of mail that will take some time to clear. We will deal with all mail in the order in which we received it, and will re-instate all service guarantees and promises as soon as we are able to honour them"

So no strikes this week

ninedragons · 15/10/2007 14:24

thanks very much. Looks like the US site might be the way to go.
