How do I issue a buyer with a partial refund, when buyer has not opened a return request?

Hi there, This is my first post.

My buyer has purchased a cardigan which has a few holes in it, which I over-looked when listing it. She wants me to knock some money off it, but does not want to return it. I have agreed to do this and offer a partial refund. However, I am going round in circles on ebay's Help page, and can't find a way to issue a partial refund, without her returning it?

Can anyone help me please?
Thanks in advance.

I’ve had a similar situation in the past and I just did it through my PayPal account as that’s how they paid, there was an option to send money/refund and I just had to put the actual amount in.
Can you do it that way?

I believe the only way to do it is through PayPal - log in, click on the transaction and it’ll say issue refund then enter the amount.

Hi Pinkshrimp, Thanks for your reply!

I hadn't thought of PayPal, so I will give it a try.

Thanks!

Definitely do it through PayPal - you can select the transaction and then select refund, and you can specify how much refund you give. Doing it that way means she can’t claim you didn’t partially refund her.

Note to (your)self - always check items thoroughly before you list them. Even if you partially refund for this sale, you may get neutral feedback, which will impact on your seller ratings.

Just get her to open a return request, then you can offer a partial refund and she can accept.

If you do it this way then the issue is closed, if you just go through PayPal she can open another case with eBay / PayPal at a later date.

You don’t get a black mark for receiving a return request, and it’s always good to do everything by the book to keep yourself right.

I don’t know what you mean by a black mark but there’s nothing to prevent a buyer from leaving neutral or negative feedback if an item arrives damaged, even if the seller partial refunds them.
