Kg and g confusion

Hi can you please help me.

I suggest with lots of mental health issues and I'm very confused.

I've been selling coins for my great uncle.

The counter clerk said as I go in a lot and I'm there I while I should print my labels at home.

I went in earlier today and was told I'd put 1g on all the letters.

When I print the labels and key in the weight 100g it changes to 0.1kg I then turn the kg to g and it says 1000g. All the letters I took today had 0.1kg not 100g.

I'm so confused. I hate going to the post office so thought this way would be better but it seems not.

I know it's probably simple maths to most so please be kind.

Thanks.

There's 1000g in a kg so 0.1kg is 100g

dementedpixie · 22/08/2020 18:52

Why did you change the key to kg when its g you want?

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 22/08/2020 18:54

Above poster is correct, your last image shows 10000g which is 10 kg.

Rudolphian · 22/08/2020 18:56

It's a bit confusing. How much weight do you want them to be.
If the answer is 100g that is the same as 0.1kg

louise5754 · 22/08/2020 21:02

Exactly I said to her 100g is 00.1kg but she said it's 1g I'm so confused maybe I'm not explaining it correct.

Maybe its her that doesn't have a basic grasp of maths then. Could you have just left it at 100g rather than changing to kg?

ColdCottage · 22/08/2020 21:13

I think it's the post office lady that need to to read up not you.

louise5754 · 22/08/2020 21:13

I did change it to 100g but it kept changing to 00.1kg and I assumed they were the same 🙈😂

I have no common sense with these things and my anxiety makes me worse. There were a few people behind me and one elderly man right at the back said don't worry love we will be going back to ounces and pounds soon so even he heard.

dementedpixie · 22/08/2020 21:15

yes 100g is 0.1kg as 1/10th of a kg is 100g. She was wrong and you were right

louise5754 · 22/08/2020 21:17

Ah I came on here for help on what I was doing wrong. 🙈

Just tell the post office staff that you don’t want to print your own labels, you don’t have to explain why (or if you prefer just lie and say you don’t have a printer 😉).

louise5754 · 27/08/2020 13:05

Hi I've been hoping to show you what I mean. Below are two labels I've just printed.

I typed in 500g and 250g

Which is then changed to 0.500kg and 0.250kg and the same woman tells me it's not correct.

I hate going to the post office. I have to these two in a minute.

OP posts:
louise5754 · 27/08/2020 13:07

They then say as I post too many it's better to do it myself at home.

louise5754 · 27/08/2020 13:08

Sorry @19lottie82 that last reply was for you.

OP posts:
Spindelina · 27/08/2020 13:13

Those two labels are right: 500g is 0.500kg and 250g is 0.250kg

To convert from kg to g, you need to move the decimal point three places to the right (if that rule helps you!).

louise5754 · 27/08/2020 13:16

Im going to feel stupid pointing it out to her. With my autism I can't explain myself. So how I have done it is correct? Their are shoes in each parcel.

I've definitely not put 2.5g 25g 25kg or 5g 50g 50kg.??

I can't see how she's wrong and I'm right as it's her business.

OP posts:
LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 27/08/2020 13:16

it's the postoffice woman....she is wrong.

explain it to her...

1kg=1000g
0.1kg= 100g
.5kg=500g

0.25kg=250g

louise5754 · 27/08/2020 13:28

My only explanation is I must have accidentally put 1g or 10g maybe instead of 100g as I think the ones she mentioned were letters not parcels. But then i wouldn't have paid the correct postage?

Late to the party but ..... can you not use the Drop & Go service from Royal Mail? Paperwork very easy to complete and then simply leave with PO. Helps to print off (or take pic on phone) of your "sending" form.
