Royal mail

The Communications Workers Union (CWU) has announced further strike action. Two 48-hour strikes are planned. The first will begin at lunchtime on Thursday 4th October and ends at lunchtime on Saturday 6th October. The second will begin in the early hours of Monday 8th October, ending in the early hours of Wednesday 10th October.

This will be followed by an unspecified programme of weekly strikes, starting week commencing October 15th, until the resolution of the dispute.

'further' strike action - I didn't know there had been any strike action!

Hulababy · 03/10/2007 14:17

Wonderful! I have a package to post to DH's grandad tomorrow with some photos and memory book for his wife - DD's greatgrandma, who is very ill in hospital, but can enjoy photos. Wanted it to get there before the weekend visit. Typical eh? Hmph.

So basically there is no post from tomorrow until next Wednesday?

WotzNow · 03/10/2007 14:18

looks that way

sorry to hear about dds greatgrandma

Actually I think in reality it means that we will have virtually no post for the next 3 weeks. DH said that there was an article in todays paper saying that because of the strikes and the weekends there wont be any deliveries.

An interesting move by Royal Mail...presumably this is part of a business plan to run their business into the ground.

Hulababy · 03/10/2007 14:22

So, is there any alternative? Other than me having to drive over - 80 mile round trip - again this weekend?! Not impressed.

TheMuppetMuggle · 03/10/2007 14:23

Knew about it on monday - was told at work.
Been telling ppl they prob won't get any mail till end of next week.

Hulababy · 03/10/2007 14:23

Oh, and will also mean my sick note won't arrive at work until after I get back there by looks of it.

saltire · 03/10/2007 14:23

I read somewhere that they are planning on striking right up to Christmas, to cause the maximum disruption to the Christmas mail!

WotzNow · 03/10/2007 14:24

and everthing will get lost, or wet, or found in a disussed house stuffed to the roof with newspapers and old mailshots.

Blardy marvelllous

Does anyone know of a good bike courier service in the Liverpool area?

Well, how wonderful of them.

Wouldn't mind but there is no alternative, apart from for large parcels - which I would never use RM for anyway as so expensive.

COUNTPinkChickULA · 03/10/2007 14:25

shit, ive just posted some ebay stuff this morn?, will it get there tomorrow?(in this country?) or is it postys on strike as well as office staff???

saltire · 03/10/2007 14:25

I was just wondering if anyone knew of any alternative mail delivery services. i need to get my claim for insurance sent off, ASAP as am £400 out of pocket

claricebeansmum · 03/10/2007 14:25

If that's true Saltire then I am afraid my postie wont be getting his Christmas tip!

COUNTPinkChickULA · 03/10/2007 14:25

and i totally forgot to get POP

saltire · 03/10/2007 14:26

I can't remember where I read it! it was either on BBC somewhere, or the Daily Ranger Record

TheMuppetMuggle · 04/10/2007 12:27

so about the amount of people who have moaned at me this morning coz they won't get any insurance dox till end of next week, not my fault they are striking take it up with them!!!

Sorry needed to vent!

DumbledoresGirl · 04/10/2007 12:29

Oh I have just listed a whole load of stuff on ebay. The auctions don't end until next Thursday but it looks like posting anything for the next few weeks is going to be extremely risky.

Hulababy · 04/10/2007 12:29

Well, my post for today didn't arrive before noon, so looks like no post now till end of next week!

emsiewill · 04/10/2007 12:31

It's my birthday on Sat. no cards for me then...

TheMuppetMuggle · 04/10/2007 12:35

I have a question ladies

You all know that their is a postal strike, i've just had one man F & blind at me because he will not be getting his documents and needs to tax the car he's just brought. so as not cert no tax.
He knew there was a postal strike, would you shout and swear at someone for something they have no control over??

Its affecting the whole country, but not my fault he brought a car with no tax!

Hulababy · 04/10/2007 13:11

TheMuppetMuggle - no I wouldn't. But I have manners and I am polite, even when frustrated. Sorry you had to put up with that at work

Mind you, I didn't know about the strikes until yesterday (or was it Tuesday?) via MN. So chances are he may not have been aware. Still no excuse for his behaviour though.

MaureenMLove · 04/10/2007 13:17

Spoke to my postie this morning and he said that just as he was leaving the depot this morning, there was talk that it might be off. Suggest you keep checking the Royal Mail website.

Hulababy · 04/10/2007 13:31

Ooh - my post arrived - after the 12 noon deadline though. At least it came though

TheMuppetMuggle · 04/10/2007 13:33

Thanks Hulababy - just don't get some people when its something the company has no control over, i'm just doing my job but don't get paid enough to sit there and have someone swear at me down the phone.
