What Do I Do Here?

Rarely use EBay and have never experienced this.

Listed a heavy electrical item as Collection Only.

Accepted an offer on Friday.

Buyer has not paid and was paying on collection.

Buyer said he would come yesterday and collect. Didn't show up. Didn't respond yesterday to messages giving directions. Has not responded to query if he still wants it.

I have heard that raising a case with EBay often backfires on the seller though?

Am I OK to cancel and relist

Hopeful Bump

Was he paying you cash on collection? If so I think that’s against the ‘rules’ of eBay as you are using them to list but not paying them their fee. So I wouldn’t raise a case. Either give him a deadline and say you will relist or just relist depending on how quickly you want it gone.

Open a case as non payment and then when they still don't pay they will refund your listing fees

WildUnknown · 04/08/2020 16:36

It's free to list for me right now and I was allowed to pick Cash On Collection as well as Paypal both options were offered to me as well as the seller Confused

Sorry, as seller I was allowed to choose Paypal or Cash On Collection and as buyer he had both options and has done neither

I would give him a deadline to communicate - if he does not respond, cancel sale, relist and block him. All that raising a case will do is drag it out and realistically they are not going to make him.pick it up if he has changed his mind.

WildUnknown · 04/08/2020 16:54

Thanks @Mrskeelersbitch I have just sent a payment reminder and basically said I will be cancelling and relisting if I don't hear by Friday. I dread the thought that he will pay electronically for it and still not turn up leaving me stuck with it.

Don't cancel as that will count against you in your metrics.

Open a case for non payment, which you can close after 4 days. Ebay then refund your final value fees and you can relist it.

You should not accept anything other than cash for collection. You are charged fees when the auction ends so Ebay are getting their cut. If you accept Paypal etc, then the buyer can claim it was not delivered after they have collected it - which you cannot disprove as you have no tracking. Once it has been collected you should mark it as dispatched.

WildUnknown · 04/08/2020 17:05

But I listed during a "free to list" offer so... no listing fees?

There is also a Final Value Fee which varies by the category you are listing in. This is charged only when an item sells and is charged whether it is paid for or not. It is also charged on the postage.

Search the Help for "Fees" and it should explain them all

WhenDoISleep · 04/08/2020 17:14

Free listing means there is no charge to list the item on eBay. At the end of the auction (or when someone uses Buy It Now if you used that format) eBay charge you, the seller, 10% of the final value the item sold for + 10% of any postal costs you listed - these are the Final Value Fess charged by eBay. If you check your eBay account, you will be able to see the amount that you have been charged.

In this situation, if you have no response to the payment reminder you sent, you should open a None Paying Bidder case via the Resolution Centre - if the buyer then communicates that they will collect the item, you can cancel the case - after they have collected and paid. If the buyer doesn't contact you, close the NPB case after 4 days and eBay will refund the FVF you have been charged.

Aaah thats a lot clearer, thanks. It's all become such a pain in the arse though, I really just want it gone for space reasons but no one I knew wanted it.
