ebay virgin: how do you work out how to post bulky items and how do you know how much it will cost?

We've got various things we could probably sell, from rolls of flooring, to kids bikes.How do you send these things to the buyer? And how do you know, before you put the ad on ebay, how much it will cost to actually send the item? I've looked at the tutorials on ebay but can't see that it tells you how to actually despatch bulky items. Can anyone help?

Hiya, there are various ways...usually if something is awkward then you'd say buyer collects, but things like bikes or prams etc. can be sent wrapped by courier...payperdrop is the cheapest and has a shop on ebay, they use DHL and it's about £6 a parcel.
Smaller items is a matter of tria and error, but you will be able to estimate with practise and if unsure you can state in the listing 'to be confirmed' or something, then wrap item and take to PO for estimate.

Or you can include postage in your price and wing it!

For large items I say collection or postage via courier. I then use the ebay courier, Payperdrop, for their £5.99 service. This allowes large and bulky items to be posted, up to 35kgs for a flat fee.

the £5.99 fee is only for parcels up to 60cm in length which will be no good for large items.

Check out some ebay courier listings before hand and see if any of the dimension limits are suitable, if not you'll have to go to the yellow pages and get a quote from them it will probably by in the range of £20 per item.
