I think I’ve just managed to break eBay rules on my very first listing !! I didn’t do it deliberately - I am wondering how to put it right. Basically I listed my item for a 7 day auction and was sent a message by someone local who wanted to buy the item for cash. No bids or offers made on site. Buyer has paid £30 cash for item and gone away happy. I have removed item and it is showing as unsold. What should I do ? Thx for reading.

Hi OP,

As you have removed the item I don’t think it is a problem. It’s great you have sold the item for a price you are happy with and you have a happy buyer too!

You can remove items from auction, why do you think you'd done something wrong?

It will still be listed in your account as an unsold item just so you've got a record of it, or want to resist it etc.

Did the person buying see that you had the item via the ebay site. If, yes, then you should have paid seller's fees. If, no, then you have no obligation. Lots of sellers sell on multiple sites without paying ebay fees if the item sells elsewhere.

The only issue I can see is that you say that the buyer was local and contacted you. If they sent you a message through eBay then there is a risk that it will be flagged and you could be charged eBay fees. I’d wait and see if they contact you and hope it didn’t get flagged up.

Thank you very much everyone for your replies, will know better for next time. I seem to have inadvertently got away without paying the sellers fees.

Ebay sometimes detects these sales & will slap your wrist & if they think it's repeat behaviour ban you. Many sellers get away with it an awful lot, though. Don't worry about it.
