Poorly fitting dress

I bought an M&S work dress from a private seller on eBay that stated no returns. There were 6 photos, no measurements. On arrival, it doesn't fit well at all - it's poorly cut and the zip bags out at the top of the back. Probably why it was being sold on in the first place. It's not a defect, just a badly cut dress (thanks M&S).

I asked the seller if they might consider a return, with me paying postage both ways of course, but they declined the request without any other comment or communication.

I don't feel it's ethical to try to resell onto some other poor sod. So I'm out of the money. It's not technically not as described.

Should I leave positive or neutral feedback? I've been using eBay for 8 years and never left less than positive, but I feel taken advantage of.

You got what you ordered. Did you ask for measurements?

I would take detailed measurements and stick it on eBay. Either someone that shape will buy it or someone who didn’t read the measurements will.

It's not nice but could the seller possibly of thought the dress was just ill fitting on them. You can't leave negative As you got what you brought just be more careful next time. I do things like this all the time 🙄

Did you ask for measurements before buying?

I think unless you asked for measurements before buying and what you were given was wrong it’s not fair to leave negative feedback. I’ve made similar mistakes in the past and it’s frustrating but lesson learnt I guess.

Thanks all. I didn't ask for measurements. Actually not sure it would even have helped, it's just the way the dress is cut / gathered. That's a good point the seller may have just thought it was a poor fit on them.

I'll put it in the charity bag and take it as a lesson learned not to buy clothes on eBay! Too many variables.

I think I mostly found it irritating that she declined my very polite request without bothering to say sorry about that, can't accept returns. Oh well.

I think I'll just not leave feedback. I feel like I'll be misleading other buyers by leaving a positive but agree it doesn't deserve anything worse.

Unfortunately thats the chance you take on buying where you can't try on. It can be hit and miss. I buy and sell and only buy things from shops I know consistently fit me well.. I have not bought anything from M+S for a few years as every time I try something on in the shop it fits badly!!
