Should I send back a replacement I didn't ask for?

On Saturday night I ordered a pet carrier because I needed it to transport a pet on Wednesday evening, and I realised mine was broken (still usable, but not great). It was from Ebay and the default shipping method was Hermes, but I payed £3 extra for Royal Mail 24 because I needed it for Wednesday. It was dispatched on Monday with an expected delivery date of Wednesday to Friday. After the post had been on Wednesday it had not arrived. I was unsure whether Royal Mail 24 came with a tracking number, so I messaged the seller asking only whether they had a tracking number (I didn't imply the item was late or lost). They responded saying they were sorry it had not arrived and they were going to send a new one. That wasn't what I wanted, so I messaged back saying there was no need to send a new carrier as the order was not late, I just wanted to know if there was a tracking number. They never replied. I later learnt that Royal Mail 24 doesn't come with tracking, but why didn't they just tell me that? I ended up using the broken carrier that evening, and it held up.

On Friday a carrier arrived by Hermes. The receipt inside the box said it had been dispatched on Monday. I messaged the seller asking for a postage refund as they had not used the postage method I specified. They sent a very apologetic message back and sent the refund. That was all fine, I had the carrier and a refund for the postage.

Then today (Saturday) another carrier arrived, this time by Royal Mail 24. On the box it said it had been dispatched on Monday. Now I'm really confused - which one was the original carrier sent? Why does one have the wrong dispatch date?

What do I need to do here? Should I message the seller or should I wait for them to contact me?

Morally, I would message them and let them know that you have received it. Tell them that you are happy to return it if they send you a pre paid returns label. They might do that or they may decide it’s too much trouble and not bother.

I've messaged them saying that if they arrange a courier collection I'll send it back. I'd rather not take anything to the post office right now.
