High value item refunded, Seller has yet to collect

After several weeks of chasing a seller to collect a faulty high value (several hundred ££) item, Ebay has refunded me in full under their money back guarantee.

They've told me it's now at my discretion if I want to return the item, but were clear NOT to pay for the return myself as Ebay could not force the seller to reimburse me now that I've been refunded. It's a large item (think flat packed furniture) but it's definitely something you could call up a courier and have collected tomorrow, no quibbles, even during Covid.

I 100% do not want the item, nor do I wish to harm the business (which is small-ish but still a national seller) by profiting from it, but I'm sick of chasing them! They barely reply to emails and when they do, it's with huffy excuses about waiting for the courier to reply (for a week??).

I have this giant box sat in my hallway and nowhere else to put it. How long do I have to keep chasing them? How long do I have to keep the item?

I would email them and state that you will be disclosing of the item on x date, maybe 72 hrs? Or 1 we if you're feeling generous. And then stick it on freecycle - someone will want it

☝🏻I'd do that too

Give them the opportunity to collect it or supply a pre paid returns label. If they don’t, then I wouldn’t worry about it.
