Ebay - why do people do eCheques and not a normal instant paypal payment?

Advice gratefully received...

I sold (tickets) for £60, event in 2.5 weeks time. I said on the auction please pay by paypal only due to time constraints and the winning bidder sent this eCheque which paypal says is "uncleared" and I should not send the item.

Why has the bloke sent an eCheque and not a normal payment and should I send an email saying I can't post the item until the payment has actually cleared? The clearing estimate time is over a week!!

Does he have to confirm the payment or will it just go through in time.

Am worried about being conned!

Just my opinion, but if I was to buy your car from you face to face, would you give me the keys (as I am stranger) if I paid you cash --- Yes, after looking at the notes!!!.
But, If I paid by cheque --- No not until it had cleared. Your situation at the moment is the same in my opinion.

You need to wait for the echeque to clear as they do occasionally bounce!

It worth telling him that echeques often occur because the credit card that they have on file with paypal has expired. If they load a new credit card on they should be able to cancel echq payment and send you cleared funds instantly through the new credit card.

Hope that helps. I'm a business seller and am currently waiting on 11 echqs to clear with some not due to clear until 25th September.
