Sold something on eBay for £150. Item was described as well used, but with plenty of life left. Buyer asked for a refund because item was well used! eBay obviously sided with buyer and have issued a refund.

Messaged buyer to say I’ve generated a returns label and they have responded saying they have destroyed the item.

Anyone got any idea what eBay will do? I can’t afford to be £150 down and not have the item back.

If they're saying it's SNAD (significantly not as described), they don't have to return it, they just get their money back & keep the item.

Because you described it as well used, that shouldn't be a SNAD.

That's just my opinion as a buyer rather than seller. Have you tried the seller central forum? They're ace on things like this. google

ebay uk seller central

(NOT seller centre)

Thank you. I’ll have a look. Looks like the buyer sells similar items. I very much expect the item to turn up on their listings in the future.

I had the same problem. There was actually nothing wrong with my item but buyer made out there was. Ebay gave them their money back. I have never sold or bought anything from eBay again. X

Sorry to hear you had the same problem. I’m very tempted to take the buyer to the small claims court if I don’t get my money back. It will cost me £25 which will be money well spent if it causes them some inconvenience.

Why on Earth would they destroy it instead of sending it back as required by Ebay? What does ebay say if you don't get your item back?

HermioneKipper · 10/03/2020 23:20

I would want to take them to court too. Scamming bastards. This puts me off selling anything on eBay. Good luck

Tara336 · 10/03/2020 23:24

That happened to me with an IPad guy claimed it never worked, got a refund and sent it back. It was still fine nothing wrong with it at all so no idea what that was all about, it was even synced with his phone so proved it had been working. Never sold a thing on eBay since

TheBigRoundSquare · 10/03/2020 23:28

Haven’t been able to contact eBay yet. It’s all happened tonight and they close at 10.

If I’m not getting anything back I’m happy to be another £25 out of pocket to inconvenience them.

For anyone interested, eBay reopened the case and overturned their decision in my favour. Funds are back in my paypal account.

ifIwerenotanandroid · 11/03/2020 15:55

Yay!

TheBigRoundSquare · 11/03/2020 16:14

Couldn’t agree more Windy.

Thanks everyone. Last time I sell anything on eBay. It’s been such a pain. I was convinced they would side with the buyer. Common sense has obviously prevailed.

kuduki · 21/04/2020 10:34

glad this worked out for you. Going through a nightmare right now with ebay!

chunkyrun · 21/04/2020 10:37

So glad you got a good result! I'd expect so much better from fellow eBay sellers. Some absolute sharks out there that ruin it for everyone

PaulaSmith1 · 22/04/2020 10:29

I didn't think Ebay paid out until the returned item had been received by the seller.

They certainly did not when I returned an item that did not work recently.
