I have had a message from a buyer saying that he felt the item was tatty and didn't work when he inserted a battery
I have said I'll refund him but should I refund the postage amount too?

you should refund the full amount he paid ie item cost plus P&P - not until he returns it though.

And unless your description was incorrect don't offer to refund his return postage.

smeeinit · 30/08/2007 23:02

i dont think you should refund teh postage. ive had a couple of refunds from e bay and not had postage refunded.
what did you state as a return policy on your listing?

sixlostmonkeys · 30/08/2007 23:05

If a buyer is entitled to a refund ie item not as described for eg then the refund should be the full amount he paid - why should a buyer lose money?

agree - check that it is actually not as described

whoops · 30/08/2007 23:09

I didn't state anything in the return policy
he said that the item was tatty and worn(it was a thomas the tank engine)and that it didn't work. As far as I was aware it did work and I didn't think it was work at all.
I have refunded the full amount as it was only £3.50 at the end of the day and I'd rather not get bad feedback

have you refunded before he returned it?

whoops · 31/08/2007 06:30

TBH I'm nt bothered about him returning it if it is not in a sellable state

I think the worry is that he could be trying it on - getting him to return it puts people off doing this

whoops · 31/08/2007 06:35

If it had been over more money I probably would have done but It's not really worth the hassle for £3.50

A lot of people like to try it on, I found once that someone had left feedback saying unhappy but was quickly refunded, this was like open season and I got a lot more complaints.

I now never refund, unless the items is back, and examines and tested, and I get a number of complaints, but suprising only 1 this year has actually been returned.

They did send it back!
