What will happen if I refuse refund

A buyer has asked to return an item.

In a private seller with a no returns policy.

The buyer wants to return it because she says it doesn't fit and it's not what she's looking for.

I had photos in the listing and said that while the label size was 10, it is a small 10; realistically a size 8.

What will happen if I refuse the return - will ebay force an acceptance or still refund her (while she keeps the item)?

My main quibble is the original postage cost I'll incur because there's no way of not refunding along with the item cost.

I know she can get her return postage refunded through PayPal so she won't be our anything while I will.

(There's no way I can claim the original postage off eBay or PayPal is there?)

I would never have done this as a buyer on eBay - I always took the view that it's a risk you take with buying from photos etc that things may not be exactly as you expect - I've just resold or charity shopped them. Especially as things are generally so cheap. (Unless it's a "label" item).

This happened to me recently.

I disputed direct with the buyer. Said that I didn't offer refunds and my add said so. There was some back and forth that ended with me basically putting my foot down and saying no refund.

She raised it with eBay and they said I had to refund her once she returned the item.

But...she never returned the item so the case just got closed.

So all I can really say is have it out with the buyer. Explain she can resell if she's not happy but part of the risk of ebay is you may not like the item. She may just back down.

Especially as things are generally so cheap.

100% agree when you've paid a couple of quid you can't really complain. I have accepted a return before on a Karen millen skirt as it sold for a decent amount.

Thanks Pulp fiction, was tempted to do that but your post confirms my suspicion that eBay always always sides with buyer and makes you accept a return,ceven when you have a no returns policy and there's nothing "wrong" with the item ie damaged, not as described.

I wondered if I should've measured the dress and put that in the listing but it seems like even if I did, they'd still force me accepting a return.

I've emailed the buyer and said I'll refund her item cost only via PayPal as it's unfair I should be out original postage cost too, given there are plenty of pics and I've described it to best if my ability. Will see how she responds (!)

She'll probably refuse, insist on returning it for full refund and not do what your buyer did - unfortunately.

When a buyer wanted a refund because something didn't fit, eBay amazingly sided with me, the seller, as I had stated the size in the listing and it was a well known brand I guess?
The buyer then went to PayPal to get a refund saying the dress was a different colour, I spoke to PayPal and explained she had changed her story and they sided with me too.
