Buyer wants item sent to different address

I sold an item, a camera lens for 80 quid, so not an insignificant sum. The buyer paid by paypal, but in the message from buyer box they wrote that they want me to send the package to a different address to the address paypal have given me. I'm of the understanding that I won't be covered by the paypal seller protection if I send it to a different address. I eBay messaged the buyer about an hour after they paid (yesterday) saying I couldn't send to a different address as I then wouldn't be covered, and asked how they want to proceed. I haven't had a response.

I'm wondering:

  • if anyone has had this situation?
  • how should I proceed if I don't hear from the buyer?
  • is there a way I can send this to the other address, while still covering myself, if that's what the buyer wants (e.g. refund the payment, re-invoice, the buyer can pay again with the correct address listed)?

If it was a low value item I wouldn't mind, but it's quite a lot of money for me!

Thanks

No, definitely don’t send it.

Message them again and suggest you refund their PayPal payment, then they can pay again with the correct address. If they agree, do so. If you don’t hear from them within 48 hours then cancel the order from your end, selecting the reason as “there is an issue with the buyers address”. You won’t receive a defect for cancelling.

Thank you Smile i sent a message with the option of them having me send it to the PayPal address, or to refund and repay liked you suggested. They've said to send it to the original address
