unpaid item case has been opened 🤔

I got an item on Ebay on 01/11, this Friday, at around 2PM.
Yesterday I got a message: "Reminder: please pay for your item,
You didn't pay for your item within 2 days so an unpaid item case has been opened. If you pay by Thu, 07 Nov, 2019 15:13:44 GMT, the seller will post the item to you and the case will be closed."
Obviously ebay/seller are in the wrong in that message because 2 days passed only this afternoon!

In the item description the seller said if someone wanted combined postage to let them know in advance.
I was waiting to see what else they have on sale yet got that dispute opened!

This never happened before to me that I didn't pay om time and obviously won't buy from this buyer again.

Why do sellers behave like that towards good buyers with 100% positive feedback!

Did you contact them to tell them why you hadn't paid or just expect them to know?

Muchtoomuchtodo · 03/11/2019 17:50

You should have contacted the seller.

I’m not sure what you mean by ‘I was waiting to see what else they have on sale’. What they’re selling is on the eBay site.

Your mistake but time to pay up, apologise and move on.

It's not necessarily the Seller that opened the case. You can set Ebay to open them automatically. Also, Ebay is full of bugs at the moment (yes I know it's always full of bugs, just lots more than usual)

As a seller you can set it up so an unpaid item case is opened after 48 hours so if you won item at 4pm on Friday 1st they can open case at 4pm today the 3rd you then have exactly 4 days to pay, is the7th. Provided you pay by the 7th there will be no strike on your account

If you had messaged seller and said I intend to bid on item X that ends on Tuesday can I wait and get combined postage most sellers would say yes but it appears from OP that you didn't tell seller you were waiting for other items so how could they possibly know,

The case will close automatically when you pay so don't worry re feedback etc

I won the auction on Friday 2:20PM. The case was opened within on Saturday at 3:14PM. So that is less than 25 hours since I won.

I have used Ebay since 2004 and never had any issues with anyone. 100% positive feedback, 51 in the last 12 months.
In the message they stated: "You didn't pay for your item within 2 days" which is untrue.

I paid already before starting this thread.
I am just wondering why sone sellers are so nervous!

@Fere, counting back 4 days from thurs 7th nov at 3.14pm gets you to sunday 3rd november, you need to check for an ebay glitch as you absolutely can't open an unpaid case until 48 hours exactly so if you bought at 2.20 on friday they could open case at 2.21 on Sunday
if the case was opened on Saturday as opposed to a reminder on Saturday something has gone wrong in the system as the seller should not have been able to open a case ( just like as a buyer you can't open a not received case until the day after it was due) or somehow there is a mix up with dates
I sell as a business on ebay mostly vintage stuff so some auctions (not all buy it now) to be honest very few don't pay in 48 hours normally if I have not heard from a buyer I would open a case the calendar day after 48 hours ie if bought on a friday would wait till Monday morning but some sellers set it up automatically for 48 hours

Reasons some sellers are nervous I am not saying any of the below apply to you for decent buyers like yourself it seems hard to imagine all the tricks some buyers do
as some people click on buy it or bid at auction to disrupt seller with no intention of buying, sometimes this is malicious as it takes 48 hours plus 4 days to close a case so that is 6 days when item is not listed this type of behaviour is more common on higher value items or if someone else in area is trying to sell one they shill bid one up so then people transfer to buying their item instead of the other as it is now cheaper
they bid on several things and then just pay for the one they want,
they change their mind and instead of messaging just don't pay
they realise they can't afford it but instead of cancelling or asking for cancellation they just leave it
just like some sellers are a bit rubbish there are rubbish buyers too
