Bugger - I have a problem with a duvet set.

I bought a duvet set on the basis that it was 100% cotton, but it is actually 50% polyester. Argh! AND there a flipping hole in the pillow case (quite big too! At least a couple of centimeters). I only bought the damn thing because it was meant to be cotton. I don't even like the pattern, but there wasn't much choice of 100% cotton sets.

I am a complete and utter wuss when it comes to confrontation etc, and I just don't know how to handle it. I only paid £1.50 for the set, but the postage was £6.50. Will the seller offer to refund only the £1.50?

I was trying to save money by getting a 2nd hand set, and it looks like I've wasted at least £6.50

all you can do is tell the seller about this and then return the item for a refund. Doing it this way would mean you lose out cos you have to pay the return postage.

I'd explain this and ask the buyer if they would be willing to offer a partial refund (explain the cost of returning etc) and see what they say.

If they don't offer then maybe list it yourself and try and get some of the money back?

Personnally I'd inform the seller that there are people who are actually allergic to plastic (I know one personally) and that could they please check next time they are selling things that are to be worn/used in contact with skin!

I doubt that the seller would agree to refund the postage, as most people have to account for travelling to post the item too (I have to account for a £3 bus fare when I sell, on top of the actual postage, because if I can't pay to get to the PO then I can't post the item) but they may be decent enough to come to an agreement.

Think you're best bet might be to, as sixlostmonkeys suggested, re-list it yourself, but don't forget that people can view the items that you've bought and sold over the last 90 days so you may be bombarded with Q's as to why you're now selling an item that you bought on Ebay?!
