Has customer service got worse on EBay lately or is it bad luck?

I'm not sure if I had run of bad luck lately. I tend to buy second hand clothes on EBay, but recently the service has been so poor!

First order didnt arrive and no response to emails.

Second order chased over a week after purchase, as hadn't arrived. Seller said would send that day-too late was going on holiday the next day and was needed for that, but did issue refund straightaway. Which I was disappointed with, but accepted people sometimes lose track of things.

Third time bought dress. Chased again over a week later. Seller said they had tried to contact me (no email received) and that they haven't sent the item as it was damaged. Didn't think to refund though despite this! That was two days ago, still no fecking refund, so emailed yet again!

These are just people selling their stuff and not businesses. They had good feedback (100% -well not now in the first case!) So I'm baffled this has all happened in about 5 weeks.. Is there something dodgy going on with EBay at the moment or are people suffering with some kind of illness that makes them super flaky.

Sorry for terrible grammar - watching the kids, so I'm a bit distracted Confused

Why are you bothering to “chase”? Just open a not received request and save all the faffing about!

BadgeronaMoped · 31/07/2019 22:37

I second opening an "item not received" case every time. It's still annoying, but you get your refund or item much faster.

Fishfeedingfrenzy · 01/08/2019 15:49

Opened another case for the refund. It just asks you to email the seller first.

Thanks for your responses. I think I will just open a case up each time. Think this seller has fobbed me off, despite being quite apologetic. You would just refund straight away wouldn't you? I hate leaving negative feedback, as I do understand people are busy, but I think sometimes people need a wee kick up the arse!

Just had to open another case for an item that should have been delivered 3 days ago.

Honestly, what the fuck is going on with Ebay right now. I give up.

I wouldn't keep opening cases. If an item is 3 days late i wouldnt open a case Hmm it could be the post. Wait a week.

RedWineAllMine · 02/08/2019 13:33

Ebay does say tho that you can open a case on the day that the delivery was meant to be, however I second that it could be the post. You have up to 30 days from item delivery date to open a case.
I'm very efficient with posting, some sellers aren't so.

MsHopey · 02/08/2019 17:03

Yep.
Twice this week I've won items and then recieved emails later in the day saying they'd sold it elsewhere can't/won't send it out.
Second one I sent a message saying can she be more careful because I'm really disappointed as a buyer, she sent me a long message back saying "theres more to life than a dress and shes going through exceptional circumstances and I'm rude as the polite thing to do is just get over it" essentially. Torn between feeling guilty and sceptical.
Had things arrive broken, stained or just not at all.
Most private sellers with 100% feedback so I'm not sure why I keep getting all the crap 😩
And I've now got to find a new dress that's flattering on my fat frame before my MILs wedding. Not easy.

MsHopey · 02/08/2019 17:23

Also saw a jumper the other day labelled "new without tags" and the description saying "it was only worn 3 or 4 times on holiday" 🤨

I know opening a case now might be a bit premature, but it just takes so long to get your money back and at first they only ask you to send an email, wait a week and then EBay step in anyway.

My experience was ok up until recently and bought a lot of stuff for me and the kids. I've had a baby not long ago and I'm still carrying a lot if weight, so am loathe to go out and by lots of new clothes just yet (although I'm still bigger 4 months pp!) EBay was perfect for this. There were a couple of things over the years that were disappointing, but the last 6 weeks have been a nightmare. Either people are just total blaggers and have no idea about normal social rules, or there are just lots of fake accounts being opened, although I'm not sure why you would just pretend to sell clothes for a £5 inc p&p instead of a larger item for more money. OH has also bought a crap item this week and they asked him to post a video on youtube to prove it was broken (the issue is sound related). We dont really have the means to do that, but luckily EBay thought it was a bit bonkers too and got his money back.

I think the issue in terms of not receiving items could be automatically relisting items. I have had trouble removing them for sale on my phone before, so I think people may not know they are still up for sale.

I've never had an item go missing in the post. The seller said it was dispatched the following day. It would have definitely arrived by now if it was going to.

I think I will be taking a long break from EBay for a while.....

I run a business on eBay and buy on eBay and I'm finding both increasingly hard. As a buyer, I have had countless items arrive not in the condition they were described, or like at the moment, not posted when they said it would be. I don't open a case straight away, I always contact the seller and allow 48 hours for a reply. If there is no reply then I open a case.
On the other hand, as a seller, I am sick of people opening item not as described cases to get a free refund when there is actually nothing wrong, or they just didn't read the description. It isn't just eBay either, I had a buyer open a case on Etsy for an item not received, accusing me of never even posting it, just two working days after it had been posted to them! In the end the item arrived one day later than it should have, but to the buyer that was a week late Hmm. I've learned you simply cannot argue with stupid.
I certainly buy and sell considerably less than I used to.

@Fishfeedingfrenzy, ebay aside, congratulations on little one! I had mine just over 3 months ago in April and the weight struggle is real! Damn this dress 😂 there are more important things than a dress but sleepless nights, feeling fat and frumpy, big events coming up, I swear it was the perfect dress that I needed to cheer me up and feel good!
