eBay postage costs

I've read that eBay take 10% of postage costs as part of sellers' fees (which seems unjustifiable!). Is this only if the seller pays for postage through eBay itself, or does it apply wherever you buy the postage? Thanks!

You state postage costs as part of your listing and eBay take 10% of the total which includes the shipping costs. It doesn’t matter that you don’t actually buy the postage via the eBay site.

Thanks, that's what I thought, but someone suggested otherwise to me earlier.

Yes eBay always takes 10% off postage costs that you state on listings. However if you actually buy postage labels via ebay they are slightly cheaper eg £2.90 for second class royal mail to print at home but £3.00 in post offices. Mind you, you are using your own paper and ink!
