Sold an item. Buyer wants me to send it ordinary 1st class. I always send it signed for to ensure parcel is delivered. She says that ordinary 1st class can be tracked. Me thinks not. Am i wrong? What should i do? Send and take the chance? Or stick to my guns?

I will probably ask the PO!
If an ordinary item can say its been delivered then maybe i should just do
that?

The PO will just try and push the most expensive service on to you, so I wouldn’t trust their advice.

Honestly as long as there is a proof of delivery (which you get for parcels, but not letters), you will be fine.

The only thing is you’re only insured up to £20, whereas signed for offers up to £50z

If she doesn't collect it after the 2 weeks from the depot it gets returned to you. Always put senders details on parcels.

Still a pain though, and the OP is down the outbound postage costs.

ilovecherries · 08/05/2019 19:44

lottie, my understanding though is that option only insures the item for £20, so if you have to claim via RM for an undelivered item, then they won't (bitter experience), pay out unless the item is less than that.

You don’t need it signed for but it must be tracked post for eBay to accept it as delivered, for example Royal Mail tracked 48 will cover you.

*source, work with eBay every day.

It doesn’t need to be tracked, you just need a proof of delivery.

PS tracked 24/48 services are only available to Royal Mail’s business customers.

What did you go for in the end OP? And put us out of our misery, did she receive her parcel successfully in the end?! Grin

neveradullmoment99 · 09/05/2019 11:43

I just sent it ordinary first class. I posted it yesterday so will check the receipt. I will however just continue with signed for on all other parcels. Thanks everyone :)

They haven't delivered it yet according to the post office info. I will report back!

OP, just remember to upload the reference number against the sales record, as you would normally do with a signed for reference number.

RedWineAllMine · 09/05/2019 15:29

Yes you must report back! Love the special thanks mention, it's like Ebay Oscars! 😂
