Suspect I’ve been sold pirated software

I have just bought a software programme on CD (photo editing) but I have doubts that it is completely legit.

I have had to install it into my c drive and follow lengthy ininstallation instructions but still the programme doesn’t open automatically, I have to go into “set up” each time I want to open it. and although it is a product from a major company, I have not been asked for any product code or registration.

I would like to return it but the original sales post said no refunds once packaging has been opened.

, the seller has been helpful and prompt to reply to my emails regarding installation problems, so I don’t want to get him into trouble if the product is legit and the issues are down to my installation.
but at the same time I have serious doubts that it is.

I’ve never returned anything from eBay before and I’ve only ever had to put a claim in once for an item that went missing in the post. Do I message the seller first? Do I mention I don’t think it’s legit or just mention the installation problems? I paid with PayPal .

Does his feedback have any mention of fake stuff?

If it’s fake, his returns policy is irrelevant btw.

Only 10 positive reviews but too old to be able to read them. He was selling a small batch of these programs which have all sold and now has nothing else listed. (Which adds to my doubts as the product is no longer made and has sold out everywhere else)

Am I best to ask for a refund because
A) the program hasn’t installed properly or because
B) I suspect it’s not legit?

No negative/neutral feedback

If you ask the seller for a refund they will say no. You just need to open a item not as described case. They are forced to either accept the return or if not Ebay step in and refund you from their account.
Regardless if they accept returns or not, you will be eligible for a refund. Once they accept you will be sent a pre paid postage label (by them) you just print it off and send it. Once tracking confirms delivery you will be refunded within 2 days. If they don't refund you within that 2 days Ebay will. Winner winner chicken dinner 👍

I know this because I'm a seller as well as a buyer. Even tho I state no returns on my listings, if someone opens a case as: wrong item sent or item not as described you get prompted to respond and accept the return If they don't respond to it after 8 days Ebay step in and will refund you. Buyer always wins in those circumstances.
Only time a buyer won't win is if they claim item not received but tracking shows the item got delivered to the buyer. I know this also because a buyer recently claimed not received but tracking showed it did. I won the case as a seller.

Thank you for your help.

I’m almost certain it’s not “real” but at the same time don’t want to get a “good” seller into trouble if I’m wrong. I guess I’m going to have to bite the bullet as the program is not working as it should anyway.

So there was me worrying about getting an innocent person into trouble- and eBay have deleted his item! So I have put in for a refund.

Now had a shocker of an email from the seller - very offensive and threatening language. I’m gobsmacked!

eBay have closed the disputes and refunded me.

Wow! Report the seller on eBay for the abuse. Did they send it via eBay messages?
They are peed that they got busted.

Waterlemon · 05/04/2019 20:39

Yes via email messaging. I used the phone back system to contact eBay and they refunded me immediately once they read his message.

I wondered how you got refunded so fast. I suspect he will of had his account suspended now and thrown off eBay. Let's hope so
