Buyer saying not fit for purpose - has stolen parts

dh sold a car part on ebay (catalytic convertor). It came off his car and was in working order, he was there when it was removed and kept it to sell on.

Buyer has come back to say it isn't fit for purpose as the internal (expensive bits!) parts have been removed and want a refund and dh to pay for postage back. There is no explanation other than the buyer removing them for his own use.

They have opened a dispute in ebay. What happens/do we do now as we have no proof the internal bits were there?

Not sure what you can do now OP, but for future reference you need to take pics of EVERYTHING, inside too if possible, and put them in your listing. Might offer some protection when a lying scumbag does this again. Sadly Ebay always seem to side with the buyer, no matter what, since they changed the feedback rules as people know they can do this and it will not show up to potential sellers. Ebay's crap now, pity there's no real competition.

I would send the buyer a letter before action letter telling them if they don’t return the parts or your money, you will be taking them to the small claims court.

Dh told the buyer to send the BMW catalytic convertor which they paid £180 for back and they have sent back an empty part of a Mercedes exhaust 🤬. Looks like they are scamming him. 😡😡

He has contacted eBay and they have put the refund on hold. They are sending through a form for him to fill in then they will investigate. He has the original photos of the BMW part he sent but no idea which way this will go!!! Guess at the end of the day it is his word against theirs!

Hi Broken - From what I understand even if eBay don’t close the case in your favour, it’s always worth appealing.
