depends whawt you're selling.

if it will go in a jiffy bag, add price of said jiffy

bubble wrap & brown paper? £1 ish

unless you are paying for extra packaging (ie not just the box it came in with a postage label) then you don't charge anything.

Packaging costs vary (parcel size/fragility etc) so it's hard to be accurate, but for a shoe-box sized parcel that just requires parcel paper, sellotape and a label I tend to add 50p to my postage charge. Parcel paper is dirt cheap and I just use old supermarket carrier bags if the parcel needs a layer of waterproofing before the parcel paper. No one has complained about the quality of my packaging (other ebayer, that is) and I have feedback over over 200)

depends how you pack things

If I use an old jiffy bag with a sticker over the address I just round up the PO charge to the nearest 50p.
BUT if things are too big to fit in a postbox and mean a special trip to the Post Office I stick a pound or so on top of that to compensate for the hassle of having to dash into town during my lunchbreak.

If you use all new packaging it's fair to charge what it cost you to buy eg £1 for a CD mailer box or 50p for a sheet of bubble wrap etc

how much are jiffy bags?

depends how big and where you buy them

Pound shop - from 20p ish
Smiths / Post Office etc - lots more

nomdeplume · 14/06/2007 15:25

it depends on the size you want, but Tesco do A4 mailing bags (same as jiffy bags but just not made by jiffy), I think they are 3 for under £1.

nappyaddict · 14/06/2007 15:35

they do small - 3 for 82p and medium 3 for £1.50. do we think medium would be a4?

i think so

LunarSea · 14/06/2007 16:23

Pundland have packs of 5 A4 Jiffy bags for £1

I use black bin liners, take one off the roll and don't open it, just lay it flat then use it like paper. Very cheap and waterproof. My feedback is nearly 300 and buyers have commented on how well my items are wrapped. Sometimes alternative 'wrapping' are required.

nappyaddict · 14/06/2007 17:04

oooh that sounds good. if i use black liners how much extra should i charge on top of postage if anything at all?

you are also entitled to charge for your packaging time, time to go the PO,petrol costs etc. If it's simple and cheap to parcel then 20-50p if it needs more expensive wrapping 50p-£1
