Should seller refund postage on faulty item?

Seller has agreed to refund item if I return it. But who should pay postage given item is faulty? ( clothing).

Kids Levi jeans. The elastic is missing that allows you to tighten them so my dc can’t wear. I’ve asjed and 5-6 poubds to have new elastic put in. Seller apologetic and says did not notice and so return for refund. But postage was 3.50 initially and I will have to pay to return.

NO you dont, i have had some problems with an ebay seller, wanted to return somehing faulty,the seller wanted me to send a video of the problem, i did and even then tried to get me to just have a new part and see if it works,i refused and said i want a full refund with postage paid,
He still argued so i rang ebay customer services, they said no i didnt have to pay postage for a faulty item, and my money was refunded today, although will take a few days to show up in my bank
Another item a few months ago, was sent about 3 sizes too big when i ordered a size 10, she said just give it to someone else
I got my money back on that too, and ebay said dont bother reurning it, still no good to me but might see if it will fit my sister who is bigger than me
Chinese sellers, both of them,they hate returns, even if advertised they will accept

Just open an official return request with eBay and you will get a pre paid label.

Always do this for faulty items,
It keeps things by the book and covers your back, should any issues arise down the line.

Ok so I opened an official return request. I’ve been offered a partial refund. Actually this covers the whole of this item price just not the postage. I assume the poster is expecting me to return for free therefore?

Just refuse it. If they don’t play ball, ie accept the return and issue a pre paid returns label then ask ebay to step in and help, you can do this after a week.

Is it a U.K. seller? If it’s a Chinese seller they always try and bully you into accepting a partial refund as it will cost more than the item is worth to send it back. Just stick to your guns and you will get your refund.

If you used PayPal they offer up to £15 postage on returns.

No need to use PayPal. You have opened an eBay case now, and as advised they will provide a pre paid returns label if your seller doesn’t off their own back.

If you've been offered a partial refund this is usually in exchange for keeping the item as it is, rather than returning it.

When a Seller receives a return request it gives options to (off top of my head!) accept the return, refund the buyer outright, offer a partial refund or send them a message.
If a partial refund is offered and accepted this would then be 'resolved'. You keep the item and receive the partial refund.

Accept the refund, on the proviso you don't have to return it, if they say you have to return it then ask for a partial refund, then it's a win, win all round - I bought a dress once, that they said was BNWT - it wasn't, it was a wrong label and then I noticed that the bird print on it was upside down, so it was obviously also a 'second' - instill liked the dress but it was a matter of principal - they refunded me half the purchase price which I was happy with, thankfully as I was pregnant at the time everyone just noticed my bump, and not the upside down birds.

You could perhaps return at a cheaper rate but I don't think you should have to pay postage as jeans were faulty. I've never had to, when I returned similar the seller sent me a pre-paid returns label. So stick to your guns!

I have. Feeling thatvtge seller is not aware that I would get to keep the jeans. In this case the partial refund covers the entire cost of the jeans not the postage. I assume if she expected me to keep them she’d have offered less. I will perhaps message her to check as I don’t want to cause conflict.
