First post so please be gentle!

I'm wanting to do a clear out of clothes and maybe some toys but really don't know where to start.
Any tips for advertising dresses etc? Do I go in low and hope someone bids? Dresses weren't very expensive but loads with tags or worn once.
I really would like to make space and get something back for them.

I have never been that successful selling clothes. People seem to want only designer labels and then for next to nothing.

I would do your research first. Look to see how many of your particular item are already listed and for what price. If there are twenty and the cheapest is on for £3 then it's probably not worth putting on. Obviously, those items still with the tag are potentially more valuable but search in the same way. There are literally thousands of items of clothing and sometimes things don't sell or sell for very little.

I nearly always use the Buy it Now option and with Best Offer for stuff over £8/£9. I set the price slightly above the minimum I would be prepared to accept, so there is room for negotiation. I'm not sure if you can do this as a new seller - you may need a certain number of feedback points before you can. I would try eBay out with a few small low value items first, so you get used to how it all works. Things that would probably end up in the charity shop.

If you have designer or retro clothing, it might be worth either selling at a specialist auction or to an independent shop.

Buy it now is much better than auctions in my experience

Research completed and sold listings for each of your items to get an idea of pricing

Use maximum photo allowance
Photograph against nice white wall in sunlight if possible

Use key words in the descriptions so instead of Ted Baker Floral dress , use Ted Baker Floral bold tropical print wedding races party dress

I know it seems silly but just stick as many relevant words in the description as allows , this will help when people are searching for your garments
