Ok why would one person make 3 or 4 bids in a relatively short space of time (few hours)each one higher than the last when they are the only one bidding?
Thanks

Are they just adding their highest bid?

MegaLegs · 02/06/2007 00:27

Their maximum bid I mean. I'm not an ebay expert but when I've bought stuff in the past I sometimes think I'll bid a bit more, then half an hour later panic that I'll be outbid and up my maximum a bit more.

Not sure really they bid say 5 pounds then half hour later 10 pounds then 40 minutes later 15 pounds then don't bid again. Its a few days before auction finishes not in last few minutes.

Strange - I don't really know. There are many ebay experts around, perhaps someone will seethis tomorrow, good luck with your auction

misdee · 02/06/2007 00:34

do you have a reserve?

1dilemma · 02/06/2007 00:35

yeah it is a bit late isn't it. I'm too scared to bid especially after reading through stuff on here to try and find an answer. I was trying to price up pushchairs.

not selling just looking. I've seen it a couple of times too!

I think it happens when the bidder has set a top limit which hasn't yet been reached. then someone else comes along, TRIES to bid against them but the original bidder's bid just keeps going up (until it hits their top whack, obviously). If the second bidder gives up bidding before teh original bidder's limit is reached, I think it does look like the original bidder is crazily bidding against him/herself.

misdee · 02/06/2007 00:56

if they have a reserve, and the original price bid isnt enough, then that bidder can bid against theselves to hit the reserve price as well.

Ahh thanks a combination of those 2 ideas sounds likely
