How ‘nice’ should I be about a NPB?

Over 48 hours, not a cheep from the buyer. I’ve tried to be understanding, school holidays etc, but actually it’s the only item from last week’s listings that I can’t get dispatched. Sent a reminder last evening after 24 hours, but zero response. They do have 100% feedback of nearly 1000, most of which say ‘super quick payment’. I’ve had a recent run of people saying their child/budgie/granny bid in error, and wanting to cancel, several claiming item never arrived (though signed for) and other general annoyances. Usually just suck it all up as part of the joys of ebaying but really fed up now and just want to lodge and non paying bidder with ebay. Is that unreasonable and I’m just taking my bad humour out on someone?

I haven't had this before (I don't sell much) so I've had a look at the eBay guide.

It says to send an invoice (which you've done) and then message them (which you've also done).

Then if after 2 full days (which this is) you've had no response then you should report an unpaid item.

This is business, OP. Follow the eBay procedures. Who knows what's going on with them but it's not your problem.

I had somebody win a bid and I reminded them to pay, exactly as you have done. They claimed I was bullying them to pay and it was their right to wait as long as they wanted (which it isn't - you are supposed to pay immediately but definitely within 48 hours).

They did eventually pay and I sent the item to them immediately. They left me bad feedback, telling the world I was a bully. I went through ebay's formal complaints procedure to get the bad feedback removed but eBay didn't do it. I seem to recall that this complaints system is heavily stacked in favour of buyers. The only thing I could do was set up a block so that this person could never buy from me again.

Some people are just idiots. I have sold lots of stuff on eBay.... perhaps about 100 items and this was the only one that went wrong. Everyone else was lovely.

Others are more forgiving, but I send a polite reminder after 48 hours and if no response after another 24 hours then I open a non payment case.

Give it a bit longer.

Thanks everyone. I sent another very pleasant reminder last night. Will give it all day today, and report if it’s not paid by first thing tomorrow, which will be nearly 4 days.

I open a case as soon as I can. You wouldn't walk out of a shop without paying so why leave it several days on ebay. In my experience (years of selling) if people genuinely can't pay straightaway for some reason they will message you early on to let you know.
