VAT on p&p

Just came across a seller who has most of his items as Buy it Now. Clearly state he will add VAT at check out which is misleading meaning the BuyItNow price is not correct. But also adds VAT to the P&P .

Does anyone know if this is legal?

You do normally pay VAT on P&P (at Amazon etc). If he is vat-registered, I think he has to charge VAT on P&P.

That being said, it's more clear if he just includes the VAT in all quoted prices, unless he expects most of his customers to be businesses, and hence VAT-registered?

I'm sure I read somewhere in ebay rules that the item for sale must be inclusive of VAT already and that it is against ebay rules to add on?

I don't add VAT to P&P when I sell on ebay. That's weird!

If you're not VAT-registered (which you have to be if you sell more than (iirc) £45K per year), then you can't add VAT.
