What does this mean? payment pending

dp sold a drill last week, and in my ebay it says 'payment pending through paypal'. it doesnt appear as if he has been paid yet.

it might mean that the payment is being made via e-cheque which takes 11 days to clear.. I've never sold anything but one time my card details had expired and i didn't realise and so paypal did this to me. I emailed the seller to apologise and explain and they were fine about it. Not sure if you have to validate anything if you're a seller tho :/

It can also mean you need to click on it to 'claim' it, or that you have reached your limit and have to upgrade your account to a more costly one

You really need to speak to customer services, but it does mean the buyer is trying to pay you

this happened to me...
because i had not updated my email address oreither my paypal or ebay address (iykwim....the addreses didn't match.

Updated them and the payment went through!

It usually means if the buyer hasn't got any funds in their paypal account, then it has to be transferred from the nominated card they've registered (bank account, credit card). This is called an e-cheque and does take a while to clear. Haven't read the rest so apologies if repeated.

It could be because you haven't completed your paypal registration.

If this is the case the credit/debit card funded payment you received will be in an accept/refuse state. A Pending Payment link will be displayed on your Account Overview page when you log into paypal. Clicking this link will take you through the accept/refuse flow.

You will have the following options to choose from:
Accept and upgrade to a Premier account
Accept and keep your Personal account
Refuse the payment

Personal accounts have a limit on the number of credit or debit card funded payments received per year. This is a pain, as I know have to have a business account, just to accept paypal, I am not a business seller, I just had a lot of stuff to clear out! To view your Personal account limit, log in to your account and click the View Limits link.

I recently bought something on ebay and instead of my Paypal payment going through instantly as usual, the buyer was informed that my payment was uncleared and 'pending' and would take 7-10 days. When I looked at my Paypal web account page the payments were there and said 'uncleared'. I checked my bank account and the money had come out, but had apparently disappeared into thin air (or to Paypal's account .

I looked at Paypal FAQ 'Why does it take seven to nine working days to add funds to my account or to complete an Instant Bank Transfer payment or eCheque?' and the answer is basically "because it does".

I emailed them to ask why it never used to take that long and have so far not received a reply.

I did some googling and found the site above, apparently one of the common reasons is that if the credit/debit card that you have registered with Paypal has expired, they will request the money from your bank account instead, which does take 7-10 days. If they take it straight from your card it is more or less instant - like in a shop I guess. My card did expire a couple of months back so I went in and updated my details and am hopeful that this will fix the problem.

Annoying that this info isn't in Paypal's FAQ - could it be that they are enjoying a bit of extra interest on the money that is taking so long to clear?
