on the 14th march i bought a camping saucepan set, the seller didnt have paypal so i sent a cheque. got an email sying it hadnt been recieved so sent another. on the 13th april he left negative feedback. i contacted him about it and sent him a postal order by recorded. on the 20th april he withdrew the feedback. i still havent recieved anything. i emailed him and he said he sent it on the 20th when i said it hadnt been recieved he was v snotty, said "theres a surprise" and that if i send a sae he will post the proof of postage to me.

i said that that was unfair, i had shelled out 3 lots of postage plus the extra for a PO could we come to some sort of agreement. this was on the 5th, ive heard nothing from him, cant report the item not recieved coz too much time has passed and cant leave feedback coz he'd withdrawn his.

what can i do?

First cancel the cheques if you haven't already. You shouldn't really send cheques as they have all your banking details on them!

lissie · 26/05/2007 18:21

done, the second he contacted me. was for an unused account anyway! we just put the money in

start an 'item not received' complaint through paypal.

Saturn74 · 26/05/2007 18:22

lissie · 26/05/2007 18:24

i've been having this problem, how much was it for, mine was for £10.50 so ebay won't do a thing. my bank won't help sop am now oging to contact the police as afaic it's theft.

(i've had absolutly no contact btw - just cashed my cheque and nothing)

lissie · 26/05/2007 18:29

only 6.50 but add on the extras and it all adds up. so angry! this is why i normally only use paypal!

I know the feeling exactly, it's the 2nd time in 3 years I've paid by cheque and i'm really pissed off now - had she of at least sent an email I wouldn't have worried so much it's not the fact she's been using her ebay account for feedback etc since I've sent emails and it choosing to ignore them - that's why I see no alternative now.

i'd put it to experience but it's the 2nd time I have been ripped off (first was a 'friend' to the tune of £30 for stuff from a book party) - why people can't be honest and decnet i'll never know.

anyhow sorry rant over. sorry for hijacking.

afaik you can't do anything without a proof of postage - but of course he could just as easily claim to send it and you never recieve it - then it's square 1 again. ask him to email it to you - can be scanned.

lissie · 26/05/2007 18:41

thanks. i agree, its the principle!

exactly - and sods law will give it now i'll go tot he police station (we have one 2 mins walk) and they'll say sorry mrs, you can't do anything about it cos it's very vague your detials of her - I have a name area and tel number. tried looking on BT but to no avail - not even got an email address. i'm so tempted to name and shame but that's a bit low I think

Furrymummy · 26/05/2007 20:33

Sorry to hear of your problem. I guess you'll have to put this down to experience, make sure that a seller accepts Paypal before bidding. There is a tick box on the search section on the left hand side of the listings.
Good luck.

vixma · 26/05/2007 20:48

Have you checked the bank statement you sent the cheque from....this should tell you whether the cheque was cashed. If it has been log a complaint with ebay, however I recommend you open a account with paypal....do this through ebay from an offical sale from ebay...you can make automatic payments. Normally neg feedback is done out of lack of payment. Is this a power seller, and what is their feedback? Has this seller had other complaints for this. I am suprised he didn't try and sort this out with you as he has this ability through email. I got a negitive feedback because I made a complaint about not recieving goods before they left feedback, So don't leave feedback as a buyer, before they do.....swines. Goodluck!

CarGirl · 26/05/2007 20:50

ask him to claim from the royal mail - as the sender her really needs to do it not you. Takes ages to get it though.

lissie · 27/05/2007 10:39

i already have paypal, he doesnt and he didnt cash the previous cheques. he isnt a power seller has a feedback of 56 1 of which is neg

pirategirl · 27/05/2007 10:44

do you think he never sent it afterall? thats why he got arsey cos he's flogged it to somone else, and thats why he got so pathetic, askin you to send an sae.

nobber.

I paid for pirate flag for my dd, and never got it. Me and about 10 others, I'm afraid, altho we tried to report it nothing came of it.

Yes, maybe have to put it down to experience, and only ever send postal orders.

sorry to hear

lissie · 27/05/2007 11:08

thats what i think. hes sold a lot of these sets, and as i say, its not a lot of money, but its the principle!

OP posts:
helenhismadwife · 27/05/2007 20:12

it is the principle of the thing not sure the police would do a lot, a few months back there was someone who 'sold' about 20 bugaboo cameleons on a dutch auction on ebay they went for £420 (ish) no one got any and a lot of people lost their money, I dont buy now unless its through paypal at least there is some comeback.
